To offer this incredible balcony overlooking the city, nature and the Mediterranean, the Accor group, under the aegis of the Fairmont brand, had to take on a daring challenge: that of renovating and extending the former residence of the &nbsp; mendoub &nbsp; Ahmed Tazi , advisor to the Sultan of Morocco in the international zone of Tangier at the beginning of the last century. Built in the 1920s, the residence had been left abandoned before being completed without us yet knowing the reason. Today, a century later, the former palace which became a palace finally opens its doors thanks to the talent of the Madrid firm OBMI &amp; CCCRA Architects , which worked to meticulously renovate the interiors of the building for 4 years after the having extended to a U-shaped structure adapted to the topography: 200 meters of height difference over an area of ​​3.5 hectares . Now restored and adorned with new buildings (only one wing originally existed), the hotel takes up in a soberly modern style the signature codes of the city - glazed green tile roofs, arched windows, moucharabiehs - set in the heart of 'a lush green setting composed of Andalusian gardens rooted in palm trees, olive trees, lemon trees and fig trees, and surrounded by a forest of century-old eucalyptus trees. The lobby being located on level 7 of the hotel, you then have to go down to access the establishment's 133 rooms and suites (only the two penthouses are on the 8th floor and the Signature and Katara suites on the 9th). Bathed in this famous Tangier light, all have the same orientation towards the city, and are extended by a terrace or a private garden with trees, increasing the feeling of space tenfold. The decor, signed The Gettys Group , largely echoes the colors of the region, with a palette oriented towards blue and light tones, respecting an obvious Arab-Andalusian style, without outdatedness or folklore. Thus, cushions, curtains and embroidered headboards, chiseled copper lighting or even marble floors enameled with zelliges are all Moroccan touches which match the contemporary elegance of the place, all handmade by local artisans. .
