A new art fair aims to put Ibiza firmly on the collectors&rsquo; map.

CAN- <a href="https://contemporaryartnow.com/en/">Contemporary Art Now</a> - is a new art fair that aims to become an innovative platform for both discovery on the current creative scene and as a showcase for established artists.
Opening today, the event looks set to be a summer highlight in the year that Ibiza&rsquo;s art scene has broken through onto the world stage. Over the next five days, CAN will become a&nbsp;hub for artists, art collectors, enthusiasts and cultural icons from Ibiza and the rest of the world, with cultural promoter and art veteran Sergio Sancho at the helm. Madrid-born Sancho, a former advertising executive, has become something of a pioneer of modern art in Spain, masterminding the UVNT Art Fair in his home city. UVNT, now in its sixth year, has become the hot ticket during Madrid&rsquo;s annual Art Week. &lsquo;CAN means &lsquo;house of&rsquo; in the Ibicenco language,&rsquo; explains Sancho. &lsquo;And we aspire to be the hosts of the avant-garde, hence our surname, NOW. Ibiza is an inexhaustible source of inspiration in many creative disciplines, be that music, food, fashion or hospitality. We aim to do the same on the island for art.&rsquo;

Drawing on Ibiza&rsquo;s rich artistic heritage, influenced in great part by the modernists of the mid-twentieth century and in particular the fabled Grupo &rsquo;59, CAN will bring together around 30 international galleries, including Nanzuka Underground (Tokyo), Carl Kosty&aacute;l (London/Stockholm), WOAW Gallery (Hong Kong), M+B Gallery (Los Angeles), 19hh69 Gallery (New York), Ruttkowski;68 (Cologne/D&uuml;sseldorf/Paris) and Dio Horia (Athens).&nbsp;
The collaborators were chosen by CAN ART co-founder, the Croatian-born art critic and disseminator Sasha Bogojev. &lsquo;These are galleries that are situated at the forefront of the emerging world art scene, declares Bogojev. &lsquo;By focusing on emerging and mid-career creators, there is a strong affinity towards figuration among the works on display, which will give the whole fair a very focused and distinctive appeal&rsquo;.

CAN will be held from today at Ibiza&rsquo;s trade fair complex, the airy and light filled Recinto Ferial on the outskirts of Ibiza Town. The fair is open during the afternoons by invitation only and will be complemented by a series of parallel events across the island.
