The Spanish photographer&rsquo;s estate has partnered with Ibiza-based gallery <a href="https://www.agonyandecstasyibiza.com/collections/photography">Agony and Ecstasy</a> to reproduce a collection of Maspons&rsquo; iconic Ibiza images.&nbsp;

During the 1960s and <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/ibiza-a-hundred-years-of-light-and-shade-part-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1970s</a>, Ibiza was a haven for artists, musicians, and free spirits seeking a <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/the-bohemian-bolthole" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bohemian lifestyle</a>. The island's tranquil countryside and pristine beaches provided an ideal backdrop for creative expression and self-discovery. It was during this transformative period that Spanish photographer Oriol Maspons decided to turn his lens toward the island.
Maspons' images of Ibiza from this era offer a unique glimpse into the island's evolving <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/peace-and-love-and-protests-the-evolution-of-ibiza-s-hippies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">culture</a>. He ventured away from the typical tourist destinations to explore the lesser-known corners of Ibiza, capturing the authentic essence of the place and its people. Maspons&rsquo; photographs delve into the everyday life of the locals and the laid-back, yet spirited, atmosphere that permeated the island: his portraits of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/people-of-ibiza/izan-llunas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibicenco</a> men and women, <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/ibiza-style-the-history-of-espadrilles-from-fishermen-to-yves-saint-laurent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fishermen</a>, artisans, and children exude a genuine connection with his subjects, capturing their personalities and the traditions that were an integral part of the island's identity.

Thanks to Emma Salahi, the founder of Ibiza&rsquo;s newest contemporary art gallery, <a href="https://www.agonyandecstasyibiza.com/collections/photography">Agony and Ecstasy</a>, Maspons&rsquo; cult classic work is returning to Ibiza. 'As soon as I saw Oriol&rsquo;s images I felt a very deep connection to them,&nbsp; she explains. &lsquo;I reached out to Alex, Oriol&rsquo;s only son and the guardian of the estate - he agreed to partner with me on the collection. To me it&rsquo;s very important that the photographs can be seen by the residents of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/hippies-fincas-and-a-cat-on-a-whitewashed-roof" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibiza</a>. Nostalgia is an important theme on the island and by re-issuing these images we are honouring Oriol&rsquo;s legacy.'
<a href="https://www.agonyandecstasyibiza.com/collections/photography">Fine art prints</a> of a selection of Maspons&rsquo; photographs are now available to buy through Agony and Ecstasy, while a collector&rsquo;s book of his images alongside quotes from those who knew him best will be published by London-based <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/art/yves-uro-the-artist-who-defined-an-era">IDEA</a> books in April 2024, with Salahi editing the content.
