Where Stories Breathe and Souls Connect
Splitting his time between writing and designing moments of connection, Liam brings a grounded, thoughtful energy to <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/escape-to-serenity-discover-the-best-wellness-retreats-in-ibiza-for-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibiza</a>&rsquo;s cultural landscape. This May 15&ndash;17, his three-day festival of ideas and creativity makes its debut on the island&mdash;inviting reflection, inspiration, and a reimagining of what the future might look like.
Now based in the hills of Santa Gertrudis, he continues to explore Ibiza&rsquo;s ever-shifting identity&mdash;with curiosity, care, and a deep sense of belonging.
&ldquo;I call Santa Gertrudis hills home. Also known as the &lsquo;Santa Gills&rsquo; (compulsory Spanish pronunciation of the &lsquo;G&rsquo;).&rdquo;
&ldquo;My first trip to Ibiza was on the way back from Formentera, which added a predictably wild epilogue to an otherwise calm week. My true discovery of Ibiza came a year later, when I was commissioned by <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/the-hottest-summer-accessories-from-the-loewe-paula-s-ibiza-collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LOEWE</a> to write a guide to the island in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Before then, my time in Ibiza was through the lens of a visitor being swept into her fold, soaking up all the surface fantasy and fanfare. Researching the book on the ground meant meeting a plurality of legendary characters from yesteryear and venturing beneath the surface to better understand the telluric energy, the island&rsquo;s mystical quality that so many have mused about.

My initial visit to the island was inspired by:
Newfound curiosity. The cliched reputation of the island had kept me at bay for many years, but then a trusted friend offered a different perspective and I decided to come and I suddenly felt the urge to see Ibiza for myself. I feel like this happens to a lot of people &ndash; a chance invitation to the island, which opens up, like a portal.&nbsp;
My first impression of Ibiza was:
I remember being struck by all the colourful characters. Nearly everyone seemed to be wide-eyed, searching for something, sometimes not entirely sure what, but all energetically engaged in some shape or form. I was also surprised to discover the island is such a natural paradise, a fact that still gets drowned out by the &lsquo;party capital&rsquo; clich&eacute;.
Upon touchdown, the first thought that crosses my mind is:
Gratitude &ndash; always. This is the big difference about living in Ibiza; being surrounded by so many people who feel happy, lucky, blessed to be here. In many cities, people grumble and groan about daily stresses and dream about escaping. In Ibiza, we&rsquo;ve made the joy of escapism a constant feature. Being surrounded by so much gratitude, especially in these unstable times, is a game-changer. They say that gratitude is the highest vibration in the universe&hellip;
Can you share any ways in which Ibiza has influenced your work or life?
I&rsquo;m a natural storyteller &ndash; through my writing, but especially through my events &ndash; and this island is a composite, crystallised labyrinth of incredible stories. I moved here in 2019 only a few months before the first lockdown and feel like the timing was a cosmic kiss. The events I create are envisaged to give people time and space to connect with bigger ideas, neglected feelings, as well as with other people. This remit seems to have only increased in relevance since the world (as we know it) shifted on its axis in 2020. Now, I&rsquo;m more focused on the island&rsquo;s creative and spiritual side, but always in an accessible, grounded way. Ibiza has taught me that every experience and encounter is just an opportunity to listen to your inner wisdom. At first, this may seem contradictory, especially because so many people come here clutching at the shiniest, flashiest tangible thing, but learning to navigate the duality between the seen and unseen is the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/my-island-laura-castro-resortwear-designer-creative-director" target="_blank" rel="noopener">island</a>&rsquo;s secret test.
Would you say that Ibiza serves as a source of inspiration for you?
Every day. I&rsquo;m still discovering people, places, and hidden layers of myself. But that&rsquo;s also because the island is always changing &ndash; or revealing itself. I&rsquo;ve written three books about the island and I am currently working on the next one. Honestly, I&rsquo;m still surprised that I haven&rsquo;t tired of trying to articulate Ibiza&rsquo;s essence.
Could you mention any works or projects of yours that have been inspired by Ibiza?
There have been quite a few. I released a 13-episode podcast of interviews with island characters (also for LOEWE) that speak about the island&rsquo;s intangible allure from a specific perspective, and this was an absolute joy to produce. I worked with <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/el-silencio-s-summer-of-love-ibiza-beach-restaurant-cala-moli" target="_blank" rel="noopener">El Silencio</a> to create a lost-semi-fictional mythology about Cala Moli which was just a playful disguise to give people an outlet for secret therapy sessions around sunset. Another fun moment was designing an experiential dinner format for GiGi that nudged people to stay off their phones. Currently, I&rsquo;m focused on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/anotherfuturefestival/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Another Future Festival</a> which is a 3-day cultural and experience programme designed equally for locals and visitors. It&rsquo;s all about inspiring people to rethink, reimagine, restart visions of the future (instead of the scary version being force-fed to us by certain cringey billionaires). This is the first time we&rsquo;re doing the festival in Ibiza and the programme includes the island&rsquo;s best places and most prominent voices of creativity. We&rsquo;re inviting participants to see the island as a microcosm of the wider world; and remind them that they still have power to influence their communities and futures. It might sound a bit intellectual (which is definitely needed on the island) but the essence of Another Future is finding fun and engaging ways to inspire bigger conversations. This happens through food, art, nature - and even on the dance floor.&nbsp;
Which artistic or cultural aspects of Ibiza do you find most prominent and intriguing?
The sense of tolerance and openness in Ibiza explains why so many eccentrics found their footing on the island. Although, I&rsquo;d like to see a bit more reciprocity from visitors; for people to honour local &ldquo;pay&eacute;s&rdquo; traditions and folklore more. We are all guests here &ndash; and it&rsquo;s always nice to respect and celebrate the host.
Is there a particular place on the island that you find especially inspiring?
There are many. I can&rsquo;t just choose one. [whispering] I&rsquo;m actually working on a guide to the island&rsquo;s creativity, which I&rsquo;m going to release this summer, so I will share all my secrets with you then [laughs].
Has Ibiza&rsquo;s local culture or lifestyle taught you anything valuable or influential?
To not rush things. To take time. To make sure there is space to receive ideas and not just be on a constant production line of more, more, more. Ibiza reminds me that most of the time I have all that I need.
Have you ever experienced a sense of belonging or homecoming during your time in Ibiza?
I definitely feel like I&rsquo;ve found my place &ndash; for now. Ibiza can give you the luxury to live on your own terms. This has been a particularly poignant feature in an era when authoritarianism is on the rise elsewhere. But beware of unfettered freedom, mainly because a lack of external friction can cause one&rsquo;s worldview, temperament, and soul to calcify. Conscious of this, I still make an effort to get out of my comfort zone, to challenge and inspire myself with frequent travel. It always feels good to come back home, though.
Are there any particular sounds, smells, tastes, or sights in Ibiza that stir strong emotions within you?
The smell of the sun-toasted pine at the start of the season never gets old. This smell always stirs a sense of expectation and excitement about the summer days ahead. They say pine is also good for memory. This thesis remains unproven.
How do you feel when you leave Ibiza? Do you sense any change in yourself?
When I&rsquo;m on my way to the airport, I always feel like I&rsquo;m missing out &ndash; even if I&rsquo;m on my way to somewhere else amazing, Time away from the island ends up feeling like a net zero. The only exception is in August, when a few days away from the island &ndash; to catch your breath - are an absolute necessity.
