A writer, actress, and keen observer, Patricia Valle embodies the island&rsquo;s most poetic side, a place where presence is the only true luxury.

A Writer&rsquo;s Journey Through Ibiza
For Patricia Valle, Ibiza is more than just a place; it is a revelation and a return to something deeply personal. After years of city life in Madrid, the island offered her a chance to strip away distractions, to listen, and to write. In a world that often demands urgency, Ibiza taught her patience. Here, under its ever-changing skies, she found clarity, rhythm, and the space to create.

How did you first discover Ibiza?
The first time I set foot in Ibiza was over a decade ago for a shoot in which I was one of the models. I cannot recall the brand or the locations we visited, as I was not yet familiar with the island&rsquo;s names or landmarks.
What initially drew you back to the island?
My first real visit to Ibiza was with my friend &Eacute;ster, an architect who had already been living here for a couple of years. She knew the island well, and we explored it off-season, long before I ever saw Ibiza in full summer mode. In fact, the first time I experienced the island during peak season was as a resident. It was surreal to see places where &Eacute;ster and I had once spent entire days in solitude now packed with crowds.
I suppose I got to know Ibiza in reverse, first through its silence, empty roads winding through pine forests, and the overwhelming sensation of being alone in nature, something unthinkable in a city. I fell in love with that side of the island first. From there, I learned to embrace the rest. That, to me, is true love.
What was your first impression of Ibiza?
I vividly remember stepping off the plane and feeling the humidity settle on my skin. The air was thick, the light golden, and the sky brushed in shades of pink and violet. It was very early in the morning, and my body seemed to exhale, as if instinctively knowing it had arrived somewhere it belonged.
What was going through your mind when you decided to move to Ibiza?
I moved to Ibiza in January 2021 with an urgent need to leave Madrid. The world was still in the grip of the pandemic, and the island felt beautifully empty. At the time, I only knew one person here, I did not have a driving licence, and the place I had found to live was quite isolated. But it was close to the two things that mattered most to me: the sea and the countryside.
I had meticulously researched the area beforehand, knowing I would have to walk 35 minutes to the nearest village to buy food and water. Two weeks in, I bought a bike on Wallapop. The woman who sold it to me was lovely and even delivered it to my house.
I will never forget the first time I saw the island from the aeroplane window. I was a child obsessed with the sea, yet I had grown up in Le&oacute;n, a cold, gothic, romantic city, far from the coast. I once told my mother that when I grew up, I wanted to live on an island so I would be surrounded by water in all directions. When I saw Ibiza from above that day, I felt the weight of that childhood dream coming true. I even cried a little.
Moving to an island is not easy, especially Ibiza, without connections or financial stability, but somehow, I managed. I was lucky. I went straight from the airport to my new home, where the landlady met me and insisted that I should not drink tap water. After she left, I sat on the sofa for a moment, telling myself I would rest for just five minutes before walking to the village to buy supplies.
Then the sky split open. Thunder, lightning, torrential rain. I had no choice but to boil tap water and wait for the storm to pass.
Has Ibiza influenced your work or creative process?
Absolutely. My urgency to leave Madrid was, among other things, a need to escape overstimulation. I wanted to write, and I wanted to remove every excuse not to. In Ibiza, I did not know anyone, so there was nothing to distract me. When I was not travelling for work, I would return to the island and see nothing but a table, a chair, and the obligation to create.
Those first two years completely changed my life. In Madrid, I would stay up late, sleep little, and constantly rush from one commitment to another. Here, I began going to bed early, adjusting to the natural rhythm of my surroundings. The lack of artificial lighting meant my body aligned with the daylight hours. I spent days in silence, speaking so infrequently that when I went to the market, I would trip over my own words, as if I were forgetting how to speak.
But this brought something unexpected. By stripping away the noise, I found clarity. I finally understood what I wanted to write about and, more importantly, why.
Does Ibiza serve as a source of inspiration for you?
Ibiza is an island of contradictions. It shifts between opposites. For some, it is the ultimate place to disconnect, to escape. But for me, it has been a place of deep connection, especially in the winter months.
The <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/island-glow-islander-s-beauty-secrets" target="_blank" rel="noopener">island</a> transforms depending on the season. Autumn and winter inspire me the most, with their quiet and the colours that shift so dramatically throughout the year. I love walking through the forest after the rain and watching droplets cling to pine needles before they fall. The red earth, the citrus trees scattered like little planets, the jagged rocks that resemble lunar landscapes, and the full moon rising over the sea&mdash;those moments are my favourite.
Have any of your works been influenced by your time in Ibiza?
I have written so much in Ibiza. During my time here, I have completed two literary projects. The first was a novel called Up There, on the Mountain. It was deeply personal, something I chose to share only with close friends. I see it now as a warm-up, a stepping stone to the novel that came after it, a work that is finished but still searching for a publisher. I will not reveal its title yet, but if someone reading this happens to be interested, I am open to conversations.
Beyond writing, I also began filming more seriously. I had been shooting on analogue cameras and capturing videos on my phone for a while, but in Ibiza, I finally bought my first video camera. I have hours and hours of footage. Filming brings me peace, and in many ways, it helps my writing. Both come from the same place: deep observation.
How do you feel when you leave Ibiza?
