An utter classic, this pretty French restaurant perches on a cobbled street in Dalt Vila, where its original hand-painted sign sways above a happy crowd of adoring diners. Manager Lisa is the daughter of the founders and she knows the guests by name - mainly because many return year on year for the cod with olives, French ros&eacute; and delightful macaroons. An absolute slice of paradise that retains the spirit of a bygone era.

This packed tapas restaurant and cocktail bar is nestled beneath the Old Town walls, where rowdy diners spill out onto the pavement. The waiters have been there for years, it&rsquo;s a real local&rsquo;s hangout and it feels like party night, every night. Order the pimentos padr&oacute;n, the seaweed salad and the spicy choricitos and have bartender Fabrice mix you an icy gin and tonic in a goldfish bowl. Lucky regulars can expect an open bottle of hierbas (Ibiza&rsquo;s local liqueur) on their table at the end of supper.

A long-standing port classic, Los Pasajeros has been dishing up simple affordable suppers to a party crowd for decades. Packed every night (you&rsquo;ll have to join the queue on the stairs to get a table) this one-room, first floor joint is a home from home for locals and seasonal workers alike. The music is loud, the service is quick and the food is ridiculously good value. Bring a gang before hitting the bars in the port or bring a date and try and nab the lone balcony table.

Taller de Tapas by Boris Buono

Ibiza&rsquo;s de facto celebrity chef, ex-Noma alumnus Boris Buono is a force to be reckoned with. This tiny restaurant is in a ramshackle old fisherman&rsquo;s house in Sa Penya - the gypsy quarter - and is perhaps the most remarkable place to eat on the island. Expect foraged plants, local fish and an artist&rsquo;s eye for detail. Charismatic Buono once said that he&rsquo;d rather make an Ibiza carrot the star of the show than fly steak from another country, so expect to be surprised by both the ingredients and the locale. The Taller de Tapas has earned a place in Ibiza&rsquo;s history books, so go now before it disappears as quickly as it arrives.

A teeny tiny Italian trattoria tucked among the backstreets between Dalt Vila and the port. La Tana is the go-to for visiting Italian DJs on account of its twinkly, insider-y vibes and superlative Italian home cooking. The spaghetti a la vongole is easily the best on the island, while homemade ravioli features a revolving cast of ingredients - go for the pumpkin if they have it. The Sicilian seafood salad looks like magic on a plate and the wine list - mostly Italian reds - is superb. Despite being open for years, La Tana still feels like a hidden gem. Long may it last.
