Fall for the charms of this pretty northern village.

Back in the 1960s, San Carlos &ndash; along with San Juan &ndash; was at the epicentre of the hippy movement. Draft dodgers and idealistic youths shared rambling fincas in the countryside surrounding this northern pueblo, wandering into thewhitewashed village from time to time to shop, socialise and collect their mail. Today, San Carlos retains much of that bohemian spirit, with a languid, laidback appeal and anything-goes attitude.

Start the day with breakfast at <a href="https://www.ibiza5sentidos.es/restaurantes/ca-nanneta-bar-anita/">Bar Anita</a>. This iconic village centre bar and restaurant has remained much unchanged since its heyday as the ultimate hippy hangout. Check out the 300-plus postal boxes that line that walls and are still in use today. Order a classic Ibizan breakfast of pan con tomate &ndash; bread rubbed with fresh tomato and olive oil &ndash; and a cafe con leche and settle in on the terrace with the newspapers (there&rsquo;s a great international newsagent just south of the village centre)If you&rsquo;re feeling brave, do as the locals do and order a chaser of <a href="http://www.hierbasibicencas.es/es/">hierbas ibicencas</a>. This sweet, herbal Ibizan liquor is legendary and Bar Anita makes the best.

After breakfast, head to the cute ethnological museum to see how a working farmhouse and oil mill in Ibiza would have looked in the 18th century. Visiting <a href="https://www.ibiza5sentidos.es/visita-ibiza/es-trull-de-ca-nandreu/">Es Trull de ca n'Andreu </a>is like stepping back in time, highlighting the lifestyles and daily tasks of the island's ancestors.&nbsp;The trull (oil mill)&nbsp; dates from 1775 and is one of the few that are perfectly preserved in the Piti&uuml;ses.&nbsp;

Wandering back through the pedestrianised shopping streets, you might stop at <a href="https://welcometoibiza.com/guia-ibiza/moda/belinda/">Belinda</a> or <a href="https://www.ibiza5sentidos.es/compras/papillon/">Papillon</a> to pick up a new sarong or swimsuit, before heading north out of the village to far-flung <a href="https://www.ibiza-spotlight.es/playas/aguas_blancas_e.htm">Aguas Blancas</a>

Meaning &lsquo;white waters&rsquo; in Spanish, this out-of-the-way beach is picture-perfect, with pure white sands and shallow blue waters backed by crumbling red cliffs. Aguas Blancas retains much of the bohemian spirit of the 1960s &ndash; not least in the fact that parts of it are dedicated nudist beaches. The boho beach bar &ndash; <a href="https://www.descubreibiza.com/es/component/fomento/empresa/279?Itemid=403">Kiosko de Aguas Blancas</a> &ndash; is a dreamy, driftwoody affair that serves some of the best sandwiches the island &ndash; think grilled chicken with chimichurri and guacamole or the classic Spanish chorip&aacute;n &ndash; along with colourful salads, juices and cocktails.&nbsp;The views across to the pretty island of <a href="https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isla_Tagomago">Tago Mago</a> are&nbsp;glorious.

Come evening, head back to San Carlos, where the fabled <a href="https://lasdalias.es/en/ibiza1954">Las Dalias hippy market</a> is open three nights a week. With over 200 stalls selling everything from vintage t-shirts to baskets and leatherwork, Las Dalias is a vibrant window into the Ibiza of yesteryear.

A pebbly camino weaves behind Las Dalias to a palm-clad hilltop where <a href="https://www.cancurreu.com/">Can Curreu</a>, one of Ibiza&rsquo;s best-loved rural hotels, can be found. At the heart of the hotel is a 200-year-old finca with all the charm of Ibiza&rsquo;s historic past, where you&rsquo;ll find the hotel&rsquo;s main amenities. Surrounding the finca, in lush, landscaped gardens are clusters of stand-alone casitas with private terraces, bijou kitchens and incredible views across the hills and plains towards the sunset. The spa at Can Curreu is justly famous, so plan to float from massage bed to supper table in one easy swoop.

Those with more energy might head back into the village to <a href="https://welcometoibiza.com/restaurantes/cor-carola/">Cor Carola</a>, a local restaurant with a charming plant-filled terrace whose Asian-inspired menu offers a neat twist on Mediterranean ingredients.

En route back to Can Curreu, the newly minted&nbsp;<a href="https://lasdalias.es/Akasha">Akasha</a>&nbsp;nightclub at Las Dalias is the after-hours hangout in the north. The monthly <a href="https://instagram.com/worldfamilyibiza?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=">Namaste</a> parties, curated by <a href="https://instagram.com/worldfamilyibiza?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=">Ibiza&rsquo;s </a><a href="https://instagram.com/worldfamilyibiza?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=">World Family</a> tribe, are a joyful throwback to the free parties of the 1970s.&nbsp;
