<p style="text-align: justify;">Michalis Pantelidis: "My creative process usually starts with photography. I capture images that catch my eye and then use the digital collage method to manipulate them. The story and message behind the collection are essential considerations during my creative journey. Drawing inspiration from my Cypriot heritage, I look to the people around me, my family, society, and nature. One of my personal projects, "The Land of Decomposition," aims to change perspectives by transforming wastelands in Cyprus into colorful and joyful scarves. I wanted to convey the idea that just as we can turn trash into beauty, we can do the same with our inner struggles. Culture often dictates what is considered good or bad, and I sought to challenge this notion through my designs.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Another project, "Harvesting Memories," blends Cypriot agricultural practices, traditional textiles, and my personal memories. By combining photos of my father picking pomegranates with <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/dior-show-india-fall-2023-woman-collection-photo-look-video" target="_blank" rel="noopener">traditional embroideries</a>, I aimed to create a unique narrative that resonates with viewers. <p style="text-align: justify;">Michalis Pantelidis: "My experiences working with renowned fashion houses and designers have been transformative in shaping my views on sustainability. During my time in <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/milan-fashion-week-news-and-mens-fashion-shows-spring-summer-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Milan</a> and Paris Fashion Weeks, I witnessed the glamour and allure of the fashion industry. However, I also noticed the immense waste and disregard for sustainable practices. It was during my internship at Iris Van Herpen's atelier that I truly delved into the world of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/portraits/giving-sustainable-fashion-the-green-light" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sustainable fashion</a>. Witnessing the creation of garments from recycled and repurposed materials opened my eyes to the possibilities of environmentally conscious design.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Working with Ronald Van Der Kemp, the pioneer of sustainable couture, further deepened my commitment to sustainability. Witnessing how he transformed unwanted materials into exquisite couture pieces that adorned celebrities on red carpets was inspiring. Ronald taught me to embrace experimentation and to view mistakes as opportunities for growth. This mindset has become integral to my design process, pushing me to explore innovative and sustainable approaches in my work."</p>

<h4 style="text-align: justify;">Your work focuses on sustainable fashion, yet also tackles social issues like domestic homophobia. How do you balance these aspects in your designs and brand message?</h4>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Michalis Pantelidis: "As a designer, I believe it is my responsibility to use my platform to address critical social issues, and domestic homophobia is one such issue close to my heart. My graduate collection, "Reclaim Worth," is a reflection of my advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community and the struggle they face in homophobic societies. The collection comprises five dresses, each representing different stages that gay men experience while growing up in such societies.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To give the collection even more depth, I incorporated waste materials, using digital and hand embroidery to create unique textile embellishments. By repurposing pre-loved garments, I aimed to emphasize the importance of cherishing existing resources and challenging the culture of disposability in fashion. These dresses are more than just fashion; they are powerful artworks that celebrate emotional expression and skilled craftsmanship."</p>
