How fashion over the years has tried to break down all the boundaries between the male and female wardrobe.

The contemporary tells of a reduction of genders in the name of a genderless wardrobe. And the modern seems to be fluid and asexual. In reality, leafing through the pages of L'OFFICIEL, the evolutionary story linked to the gender difference in the wardrobe appears as a boundary on which designers have always walked tightrope. In the 60s and 70s, futurists such as Pierre Cardin, <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/portraits/paco-rabanne-and-his-metallic-poetry" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paco Rabanne</a> or Andr&eacute; Courr&egrave;ges imagined the wardrobe of tomorrow: a futuristic uniform in which there were no differences between men's and women's clothing. With the woman dressed in geometric rigor and the man ready to wear tailoring garments with a space construction. On the opposite front, provocateurs such as Yves Saint Laurent or Walter Albini played at provoking the bourgeoisie by avoiding any type of clothing stereotype, giving power to feminine lightness and giving masculine rigor a touch of delicacy. In the '80s, thanks to the new androgyny preached by <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/giorgio-armani-s-spring-summer-2024-collection-embracing-vibes-of-the-season" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Giorgio Armani,</a> the barriers became increasingly thinner, both in formalwear (male tailoring becoming female power dress) and in casualwear. From the minimalist Nineties onwards, fashion has continued to play with gender difference, experimenting with matchy-matchy outfits or playing with aesthetic clashes, especially in the underground substratum as taught by the grunge movement. And then the current comeback. Where unisex has gone out of fashion to become a-gender. Where the battle of the sexes, which dominated the past decades, seems to have signed a truce in the name of a fashion in which genders exist, but are increasingly less stereotyped. Where a phrase that Cardin loved to repeat seems to triumph: "Fashion is a universal language that transcends every boundary, of culture or sexuality."
