Iris Van Herpen unveils a futuristic Couture collection inspired by aquatic architecture and bionic innovations.

Inspired by the future of floating cities and the concept of bionic design, Iris Van Herpen's pioneering <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/dior-haute-couture-fall-winter-2023-collection-every-look-paris-fashion-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Couture Fall 2023</a> collection reflects a vision where man inhabits both land and sea. In this utopian world, our built environment becomes a natural extension of the vast waterscapes, creating a harmonious coexistence between humanity and the world's oceans. Van Herpen's creative process began with the visionary ideas of Jacques Rougerie, a French architect and oceanographer, known as the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/design/corner-of-architect-the-accessible-style" target="_blank" rel="noopener">architect</a> of the sea &mdash; funny coincidence when you think of the fashion designer as an architect of the body, the Evidence couldn't be more glaring between these two. Rougerie's work bridges scientific exploration and architectural innovation, providing a better understanding of the complex relationship between the oceans and our built environment. Her designs for underwater habitats and floating laboratories, based on her expertise as a marine biologist and architect, have inspired many &mdash; and Iris Van Herpen was no exception. Other elements of the collection are influenced by the revolutionary world's first floating city, "Oceanix ", currently under construction in <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/louis-vuitton-pre-fall-2023-seoul-runway-looks-collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">South Korea</a>. The first major manifestation of this new form of aquatic urbanism, designed by architect Bjarke Ingels, Oceanix incorporates circular and waste-free systems, closed loop water systems, net zero energy and coastal habitat regeneration. The result of research and development, the collection materializes the principles of parametric architecture, known for its fluidity, fragmentation and changing patterns.
The dynamic energy of the design is evident in the explosive patterns of light and shadow that vibrate around the body, the fractal shapes, geodesic voids and distorted perspectives that redefine the traditional boundaries of fashion. The ARCHITECTONICS collection dares to imagine the next frontier of humanity: a world where urbanism on water harmonizes with marine <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/hommes/the-future-of-the-oceans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ecosystems</a>.&nbsp;Global concern is growing as 90% of the world's major cities are vulnerable to sea level rise and more than 410 million people are predicted to be at risk. This season, Van Herpen's designs draw attention to the visionary ideas of Oceanix , the world's first floating city, and to the important new generation of architects who show us the ingenuity and interest of architecture on the water. Challenging our conventional notion of living spaces, each silhouette embodies the duality of our existence, where land and water intertwine &mdash; to envision a future where we inhabit both realms seamlessly.
