Chanel 2023 spring haute couture collection is not the first, the beginnings of which began in the apartments of the founder of this fashion house, Gabrielle Chanel. True, this time the attention of the creative team was not attracted by the classic "Chanel" symbols and motifs, such as camellias or crops, but by the world of animals.

The apartment at 31 rue Cambon in Paris is a real fashion sanctuary where only individuals can visit, but designer Virginie Viard is a frequent guest here, it is in these apartments that she looks for creative inspiration. Once upon a time, <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/art/met-gala-2023-details-karl-lagerfeld-theme-hosts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Karl Lagerfeld</a>, the longtime creative director of the fashion house, spent his time searching for new ideas in Coco Chanel's apartment.
Gabrielle Chanel started her career in the world of fashion in 1910, she quickly gained recognition and in 1918 she bought the entire building, number 31, in a fashionable area of Paris, near the Place Vend&ocirc;me, on the rue Cambon . Today, it houses not only one of the most visited Chanel boutiques, but and a space for the most important clients of the fashion house, creative workshops and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/chanelofficial/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chanel</a> sewing atelier. After purchasing the building on its third floor, Gabrielle Chanel created the apartment of her dreams: grand, utterly elegant, filled with artwork, books, antiques and custom-made furniture, and objects dearest to her heart, brought back from her travels.
The legendary apartments of Gabrielle Chanel have been preserved to this day as they once were, as if the marks of time had not touched them. Fifty years after Mademoiselle Chanel's death, the apartment shines anew. In 2020, restoration work began, which was undertaken by the famous French interior decorator Jacques Grange. True to the spirit of Chanel, he drew inspiration from a number of archival photos, especially the shots taken by photographer Robert Doisneau in 1953, which captured the authentic interior of the rooms. Today, the apartments, which protect the rich layers of history, are compared to the shining baroque decoration, which has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Chanel collections for many years.
A few years ago, this private world of Mademoiselle Coco Chanel became the main theme of Chanel's 2019-2020 M&eacute;tiers d'Art collection. Now, Chanel's creative director Virginie Viard has once again taken inspiration for a new collection from the history-rich suites. However, there was more than one person working here - they invited the French artist Xavier Veilhan, who is taking care of the scenography of the Chanel fashion show for the third time, to look for starting points.

"I invited Xavier to visit the Chanel apartments together. I asked him to interpret the beast seen here, to include in it the visions he had created. Not only the environment, but also all the embroideries of this collection are based on the world of animals", V. Viard revealed the initial idea.
Black was impressed by Gabrielle <a href="https://www.chanel.com/es/alta-costura/primavera-verano-2023/?utm_medium=smaorganic&amp;utm_campaign=fsh_fs_23shc_2023_ss&amp;utm_source=instagram&amp;utm_term=linkbio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chanel's collection</a> of sculptures, design objects and drawings, which include the lions that have become symbols of the fashion house, as well as deer, birds and camels. As in previous seasons, X. Veilhan worked with wood while preparing the show decorations. From it, cardboard and paper, the artist created eleven large animal figures, which became hiding places for the models. The show started with the opening of the sculptures and the first models, of which more than 50 were presented in the collection.

The show became a modern interpretation of the parade, many details of the outfit were borrowed from the parade uniforms: from top hats, bow ties, white gloves, lace-up boots to satin capes, pleated skirts and double-breasted jackets. Short tweed suits and evening dresses are embroidered with various animals and birds, if you look closely you will see beaded corgis, deer, rabbits, swallows or kittens. Some animals are arranged in such a way that they create a rhythmically repeating pattern that at first glance disguises the silhouettes of the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/schiaparelli-haute-couture-a-metaphor-for-the-torment-of-hell-se-dante" target="_blank" rel="noopener">animals</a>. A textured effect of animal fur is also obtained with abundant embroidery, adapted to suits.

A part of the collection consists of dresses and overalls made of slightly see-through fabrics. The models are decorated with small pleats, ruffles, sewn from dyed lace, silk tulle, taffeta, organza, crepe and Chantilly lace (French braided lace).

Chanel in 2023 the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/beauty/hair-trends-spring-summer-2023-haute-couture-runways-hairstyles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spring haute couture</a> collection resembles a parade of elegant and romantic fairies. It was completed, as usual, by the Chanel bride, this time wearing a short, loose-fitting dress, from... to... embellished with swallows cut out of sheer fabric.
The collection's wonderful embroideries, one-of-a-kind fabrics, accessories and jewel-like buttons were born in the Chanel-owned creative workshop le19M, uniting 11 ateliers, hundreds of craftsmen and craft experts. Le 19M is a place where over 600 artisans work: from embroiderers, feather craftsmen, shoemakers, tanners, goldsmiths, folders to hatters and more. Ateliers such as Atelier Montex, Lesage, Goossens, Lemarie, Maison Michel, Massaro, Paloma, Studio MTX are located here.
