The fashion system&#39;s attention to design and interior design is growing more and more, and if at Milan Design Week we expect amazing projects, creative liaisons and super chic homewear collections, we discover that the link between fashion and product design has distant origins.

Fashion puts the spotlight on design. The fashion system has always had an inclination for art and design, but the origin of these contaminations date back to the last century. The stylist was the absolute pioneer of this link between design and fashion &nbsp; <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/schiaparelli-fashion-show-haute-couture-autumn-winter-2022-23-photo-look-collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Elsa Schiaparelli</a> &nbsp; who in 1936 made the Dress with drawers , inspired by the work " Venus de Milo with drawers" by the surrealist <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/art/salvador-dali-cach-mang-hoa-the-gioi-bang-listen-thuat-ngong-cuong" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Salvador Dal&igrave;</a>. A kind of trompe l'oeil on a series of ready-made dresses and coats inspired by a chest of drawers complete with drawer pockets that Schiaparelli presented in his Haute Couture Winter 1936-1937 collection. Crafted in navy blue velvet, the suit was embellished with five drawer pockets with black plastic knobs.

And lsa Schiaparelli paved the way for many other stylists and creative directors who interpreted this bond in a creative and experimental way. One of these was <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/gucci-show-autumn-winter-2023-2024-photos-images-look" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tom Ford</a> , when he was at the creative direction of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/gucci-suitcase-luxury-suitcases-to-buy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gucci</a> he had presented the autumn-winter 1996 collection, and for some looks he was inspired by the details of the "La Chaise" lounge chair by Vitra (inspired by the sculpture 'Floating Figure' by Gaston Lachaise and designed by designers Charles and Ray Eames), one of the favourite pieces of furniture by the American designer and director. The result was a cut-out dress that sensually revealed the woman's body.

Without going too far from the Nineties, one cannot fail to mention the ugly-chic queen Miuccia Prada with her passion for prints. For the 1996 fall-winter collection by Prada she was inspired by the patterns of seventies wallpaper, with modular all-over prints inspired by the universe of design. Twenty years later, with the Miu Miu brand, Mrs. Prada presented the autumn winter 2016 women's collection, creating some looks by selecting furnishing fabrics combined with the most classic upholstery.

 Instead, Hussein Chalayan brought one of the most memorable moments of the fashion system with his autumn-winter 2000 collection entitled "Afterwords" . A fashion show inspired by the childhood memories of the Turkish Cypriot designer and the refugees of the war in Kosovo (1998-9), forced to flee suddenly, taking their belongings with them. The fashion show ended with a performative moment in which the models disassembled and transformed the furnishings and objects belonging to the domestic universe into conceptual and astonishing looks. For which the covers of the armchairs became asymmetrical dresses, the wooden chairs suitcases overnight while the coffee table in the living room an amazing metal wheel skirt.

Chalayan After Words show

For Bill Gaytten 's first Haute Couture collection at Christian Dior, presented with the fall winter 2011 show, the creative director was inspired by the pop and colourful universe of the Memphis Group . Founded in the seventies by Ettore Sottsass , the iconic design elements are transformed with playful prints, chromatic clashes, a saturated palette and that postmodern language that has enchanted the design system.

Conceptual and irreverent. The creative duo composed of Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, with the fall winter 2006 show had a cast of models parade with silhouettes that recalled the homewear universe. The <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/viktor-rolf-haute-couture-2023-humourous-against-gravity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Viktor &amp; Rolf</a> looks were structured with lots of bed linen, duvets and quilts, blankets and pillows.

From settings to collections. The Maison Martin Margiela has always paid great attention to the world of design. With the autumn winter 2006 women's collection, the Belgian designer presented looks with cretonne sofa covers, seventies leather chairs, elements taken from carpets, curtains and car seats (complete with seat belts) adapted on jackets, trousers, skirts, sandals and belts. But Martin Margiela's flagship is the Duvet Coat, presented with the 1999 autumn-winter collection: in fact a duvet with sleeves - made to be worn like a long duvet - complete with interchangeable sleeping bags.

With the Louis Vuitton autumn winter 2021 show , Nicolas Ghesqui&egrave;re celebrates the creative heritage of the Italian design brand &nbsp; <a href="https://www.instagram.com/fornasetti/?hl=it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fornasetti</a> with a collection that exhibits the figurative imagery of the atelier of &nbsp; Piero Fornasetti &nbsp; founded in 1940. The LV x Fornasetti collaboration &nbsp; is structured as a transversal dialogue made up of more than 13,000 creations that tell the story of the two creative universes. &laquo; My father was an innovator who believed in handmade, just like Louis Vuitton&raquo;, says <a href="https://www.instagram.com/barnaba_fornasetti/?hl=it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barnaba Fornasetti,</a> Piero's son and current artistic director of the Italian brand. &laquo; Our ambition has always been to spread Fornasetti's unique imagery among people through finely handcrafted objects and this rewarding collaboration represents a new opportunity to broaden and explore our visual creativity&raquo;.

<a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/max-mara-fashion-show-spring-summer-2023-collection-photo-look" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Max Mara</a> together with the architect and designer Patricia Urquiola presents the Weekend Signature Collection baptized with the name of " Habito " for the autumn-winter 2022-23 season. A collection in which contrasting graphic and chromatic combinations prevail, colours and textures and shapes that redefine an unconventional silhouette.
&laquo;Habito, in Spanish, means "habits" and "inhabit" in the first person. My work is a daily research on how we can inhabit a space or a life experience with different dimensions. Why not clothes too? They are pieces of our homes that we take with us on our journey. The narrative of the collection is about hybrid pieces that welcome you like a home.
