The charm and the mystery by Giuseppe Porcelli does not pursue contemporaneity but past suggestions to be updated in the present.

There is a term, bovarysme , evoked by a famous Madame, which is used to escape to elsewhere, far from the daily routine, thanks to the persuasion of the art of dreaming. The narrative density of a room, intended as an other space, is also part of a static immersion and yet so vividly dynamic and strongly devoted to the salvific transference. The path is the same one that has been taken by the design evolution of Giuseppe Porcelli, an architect and designer from Campania, Milanese by choice with a New York soul, at his debut as a solo designer during the Milan Design Week 2025

Garçonnière is the title of the intimate concept chosen as a setting inside a pied-à-terre in the heart of the Città Studi district of Milan where the four elements, an armchair, a console, a table lamp and a mirror, are inserted into a real narrative simulation evoked also thanks to the textile coverings of the walls created by <a href="https://fortuny.com/textiles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fortuny</a> . A protected and homoerotic space inspired by the tension of male love, it reflects on the ego, solitude and hedonism of those who will enter that space in an exploratory way. “Expanding the concept of garçonnière was fundamental to give shape to the style of my content, a balance between the masculine and the feminine oriented to the fascination for a nineteenth-century Victorian antiquarian past. This is expressed by the fusion of materials such as the marriage between steel and nappa of the diamond mirror. This is expressed by the coexistence of elements of classical art chosen such as the works of academic nudes, busts and heads, which later became models of celebration and contemplation of the masculine, combined with contemporary works of lucid exploration on the same theme such as the works of the English <a href="https://derouillon.com/artists/alex-foxton" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alex Foxton</a> ”. &nbsp;

Porcelli does not hide his vocation to reinterpret a forgotten past, nostalgic yet so intense and romantic, the engine of a sensitivity rediscovered after the beautiful and unrepeatable period - as only a first great love can be - in the role of Product Design Director at Dimorestudio with Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran. A studio where the creation of a totally engaging atmosphere is the only possible framework with which to describe the products. “When I started the solo chapter, I rediscovered the ancient and the historicization, the Empire style and the beginning of the twentieth century, or rather everything that I had not had the opportunity to draw, ideal instead today to trace the furrow of my new aesthetic path. I do not chase contemporaneity, but only past suggestions to be updated in the present. I think of my home, where I grew up, and the houses of my parents&#39; friends. In Southern Italy the ostentation of beauty is different and certainly the fact of being southern contributes to the figure and pathos of my aesthetic. The drama of dark colors, the chiaroscuro of the Spanish and Sicilian school&quot;. The designer admits: &quot;basically I am a concentrate of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in constant dialogue with Victorian England, a period particularly dear to me where the arts and engineering flourished and therefore our contemporary way of life&quot;. The artisanal component is the fundamental hub of Porcelli&#39;s work with which he customizes, re-integrates pieces and shapes new worlds in both hospitality and residential projects located between Rome, Milan and Dubai. The skill, knowledge and manual ability of the artisans must be kept alive and nurtured in new networks of alliances between young generations who have the desire and passion to study, try and collaborate. And faced with the impossibility of a process, Porcelli does not give up: &quot;if you know how to do it, then you can ask&quot;. &nbsp;
