From October 22 to November 5, 2022, Ang&eacute;lique de Limburg-Stirum and Sissy de Pourtal&egrave;s jointly exhibit their works in Paris.&nbsp;

The dialogue between the canvases of Ang&eacute;lique de Limburg-Stirum and Sissy de Pourtal&egrave;s , despite the difference in style and aesthetics, reveals many common elements in them, like the practice of figurative <a href="https://www.lofficiel.com/design/coup-de-coeur-les-sculptures-ceramiques-et-peintures-d-angelina-guez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">painting</a> , the creation of serial works, or the passion for animal characters. But above all, the two artists place the action that takes place on their <a href="https://www.lofficiel.com/art/tajan-expose-dona-nelson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paintings</a> in the temporality of twilight : this moment when the moon appears in the sky, when forest animals leave their shelters and when work gives way to leisure.
The image of the nocturnal wolf, with all its historical connotations, is accompanied in the paintings of Limburg-Stirum by exclamatory texts: half-confessions, half-incantations in the spirit of peasant ex-votos. Their presence makes it possible to consider these works as a kind of his &ldquo;subconscious self-portrait&rdquo;, a projection of the unbridled natural forces of the artist's personality, embodied in this animal. The psychological importance and the genuinely cathartic character of this staging become all the more evident since a sudden encounter with a wolf in the middle of the forest is not the fruit of a Limburg-Stirum fantasy, but a true and rather terrifying episode of his life.
The heightened feelings and intense intimacy one indulges in after sunset are at the center of Pourtal&egrave;s' artistic practice. One of her heroines undresses in front of an open window on the nocturnal sea, another smokes a cigarette under purple neon lights like those in nightclubs. The third, wearing just underwear and an old t-shirt, all smeared with paint, draws in the shadows.
Their shared perspective in this Galerie Charraudeau exhibition leaves room for our own introspection. Fascinating, strange, elusive, perhaps disturbing for some, but always hypnotic: it is essential to form your own opinion by confronting these singular works.
