Supermoon, as the phenomenon of the full moon scheduled for the evening of 13 July 2022 is called. It is already the second phenomenon of this type of the year: in June we witnessed the strawberry Supermoon, a pink full moon with very similar to that scheduled for tonight, but much smaller. In fact, July is the month with the most interesting astronomical sky of the year, so astronomers and scientists of all kinds wait all year round. WHY IS IT CALLED DEER SUPERMOON?
It is called Supermoon&nbsp;because it is a full moon and is located in the perigee, which is the closest point to Planet Earth, so as to appear brighter and larger than a normal full moon. It is called the deer because July is the month in which the antlers of the male deer begin to grow back for the annual renewal. A little curiosity: the naming of astronomical events comes from the tradition of the Algonquian Native Americans, who were once the most populous native tribes of America, occupying most of the Canadian regions, from the Atlantic to the mountain ranges .
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE SUPERMOON PHENOMENON?
The moon is usually distant from the earth, about 400,000 kilometers and every year, experts tell us, it moves 4 centimeters away. During this phenomenon the moon is much closer to the Earth, it is in fact in the perigee. Astronomer Richard Nolle Nolle in 1976 said that to speak of a supermoon it is necessary that the satellite is located within 361,885 km from the earth. For there to be a supermoon there must then be a full moon. During the phenomenon we always see the same face of the moon because in addition to rotating around the Earth it rotates on itself but the time to complete the rotation is the same. The full moon and therefore also the Superlmoon, influences the behavior of some animal species; for example during the phenomenon the mass dissemination of the eggs of the great coral reef occurs.
WHERE CAN THE SUPERMOON BE SEEN?
It is also possible to see the moon with the naked eye: due to its position so close to the Earth, it will be very large and bright. The recommended time to see it is 21:20, while places subject to light pollution are not recommended.
