The former creative director of Gucci collects in a book the images of the stars who have made music history since 1969. Starting with David Bowie.

Frida Giannini has became creative director of Gucci in March 2005, taking over from Alessandra Facchinetti after she had signed only two fashion shows, effectively taking on the difficult comparison with the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/tom-ford-most-popular-advertising-campaigns-photos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tom Ford era</a> which ended in 2004. She remained at the head of the brand for 10 years, thanks to the success of the recovery of the Flora print and a rock spirit that is at the same time liberating, empowering and glam that reflects her all-consuming passion for music, and which brings together the style of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/music/should-you-see-this-new-documentary-devoted-to-david-bowie" target="_blank" rel="noopener">David Bowie</a> and Depeche Mode, <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/kate-moss-marc-jacobs-countryside-pink-hair-photos" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kate Moss</a> and Bianca Jagger.
With the book " A Journey into the Style and Music of my Icons since 1969", just released by Rizzoli, Giannini talks about her aesthetic and musical fascination for a whole series of talents starting from David Bowie. In a tracking shot opened by the Thin White Duke in a shot from 76, with orange hair, glasses with pink lenses and a cigarette. Again following Bowie in a mustard suit by Freddie Burretti combined with a Gucci suit in gold lam&eacute; on the A/W 2006/07 catwalk, Giannini in a jais minidress next to <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/music/madonna-most-iconic-movie-roles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Madonna</a> in an emerald green marabou minidress, Sharon Tate and the Woodstock crowd , a very young Patti Smith, Carole King with the black velvet jacket, Annie Lennox in a red lace bra under the nail covered with studs; there are Chris Cornell and Kurt Cobain, Iggy Pop and The Smiths, Billy Idol and Siouxsie, Diana Ross and Mick Jagger, Jeff Buckley and Lady Gaga who remakes Bowie's looks... A blast from the past for those who knew that era he lived and what to intrigue the younger audience. L'OFFICIEL: Why this book and why now? Frida Giannini: The book was born because in the last two years I had to take care of my mother who was very ill, I couldn't sleep at night and I devoted myself to photographic research, which has always been a passion of mine, even when I was working on the collections &hellip; In that period of my life it had a fundamental cathartic function. The difficult thing was doing the editing, because I had folders full of an impressive number of photos...

LOI: Was Bowie&#39;s centrality clear to you from the beginning or did it emerge along the way? FG: It&#39;s a spontaneous centrality, Bowie was a precursor in every sense. LOI: In the book there is also the interview that Dave Gahan did with you for “Interview” FG: It was Fabien Baron&#39;s idea that thrilled me because I was a die-hard Depeche Mode groupie. Dave had bought Gucci cleated boots perfect for his stage performances and for years, after we made a cast of his foot, we provided him with his own custom-made boots. LOI: How did “Chime for Change” come about? FG: It&#39;s a project that I created, immediately involving Salma Hayek and Beyoncé. Until then Gucci had supported Unicef, but I wanted to change the theme. It was before Me Too and I had taken Live Aid of &#39;85 as a model, the great double concert of 16 hours of non-stop music broadcast by satellite and followed live by over 2 billion people in 150 countries around the world, promoted by Bob Geldof for bring aid to Ethiopia overwhelmed by a horrible famine. I turned to the same organization that had followed Geldof: “The Sound of Change”, held in London in 2013, immediately sold out.

LOI: On stage there were Florence Welch, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Rita Ora, Madonna.. FG: Music is full of women, in fashion, if you don&#39;t have a family business, you can count the creative directors on one hand. And it&#39;s no secret to anyone that it&#39;s not a question of talent, all the style offices are full of very good girls, but there is a gay lobby that has established itself since the 80s and seems to have forgotten that the origins of contemporary style are It&#39;s Coco Chanel. LOI: You dedicated a chapter to Madonna. FG: Because she&#39;s a great artist. And then she was my first style icon. “Desperately Seeking Susan” was the first film I saw at the cinema alone at 14 years old and for a while I dressed just like her. LOI: What outfit or collection have you designed that best expresses your fascination with music? FG: The gold lamé suit from F/W 2006. LOI: What designers do you like? FG: It&#39;s difficult. I don&#39;t understand the seats that change too often, the disposable system of large groups... Daniel Lee at Bottega has done an incredible job, at Burberry it&#39;s not clear, but even a media phenomenon like Jacquemus isn&#39;t clear what direction he intends to take.
