With a hybrid between electronica and the hardest rap, the London artist explores the different aspects of her fierce personality, to free herself and always go further. This 2022 it will be presented in Santiago at the Primavera Sound festival.

Be wary of the nickname she chose for herself: Shygirl, because&nbsp;she's not all that shy. You just have to see one of his clips to be convinced: BB, Uckers or Slime, among others. Outgoing, determined, daring, sexy and in control, this Londoner is fearless. He dares to unleash his most radical experiments, just like Bj&ouml;rk or Aphex Twin. "I never felt the slilghtest bit shy," he confesses by phone from his London apartment. "It happens to me, of course, that I have moments of nervousness or apprehension, but it happens very quickly, I force myself to overcome them to move forward. Pretending to have self-confidence, I end up having real confidence. Precisely when I started looking for a stage name, the term 'shy' attracted me because this concept is totally foreign to me. It's the exact opposite of my personality" she says.&nbsp;

Her fiery temperament is not at odds with a taste for introspection, on the contrary. Shygirl revisits the myriad facets of herself on the Alias EP, which she released in November 2020. We discover her four alter egos - Baddie, Bonk, Bovine and Bae - who appreared in her clips in the form of digital avatars "I always wanted to explore these variants of myself that reflect my music," she analyzes.
This gallery of characters would not be complete without a "B" surname, the one written on Shygirl's passport: Blane, a complex young woman from South London with a degree in photography. Before launching her music career, she went through other full-time experiences, at a design agency and as a booker at a modeling agency. At that time, she wrote her song ideas or texts on public transport, just for her, without planning to share them. Since then, several lines have been added to her resume: DJ, co-founder of the Nuxxe label (parent company of Coucou Cho&eacute;, Oklou and Sega Bodega), to director of her own music videos.

His kaleidoscopic vision of music is not new. When asked about his early fascination with sound, two major works surfaced: the soundtrack to the cartoon The Jungle Book and the impressive single from Firestarter's The Prodigy. "Two different atmospheres," he admitts bursting into laughter. "Weirdly, they always calmed me down when I was in a bad mood at home."
It was her friend, Sega Bodega, who took an interest in his calm voice and delivery machine gun. He was the one who pushed her to take the first step. In 2016 he invited her to sing in a piece he was preparing. The result was titled Want More, which makes you want to listen more and more. "To my surprise, everything was very natural from the beginning," says Shygirl "I didn't have to compromise or change who I am. I try things, I enjoy the process and luckily there are other people who also enjoy what I create. I post my new songs on the fly, as soon as they're ready. Therefore, the public sees me evolve in real time, at the same time that I reveal myself."

Her latest mutations illuminate the seven futuristic tracks on the Alias EP. Shygirl's flow interwines with her music, a clever mix of all her obsessions: from grime to R&amp;B, from rap to acid house, from drum'n'base to pop. The singer likes to be nurtured by teamwork: by guests like Sega Bodega and Sophie, faithful from the beginning. "When it comes to creating, I tend to want to do it all," explains Shygirl. "Collaborations force me to come out of my shell and provoke a spontaneity that is difficult for a perfectionist to achieve. The unexpected can work wonders. It is also interesting to see new ways of working. I want to discover all possible parameters for my music. My first EP was darker and more distressing, I felt like I was walking into a room for the first time, looking to see if I had my place. With this new RP, I feel more confident and walk around every corner, talking to different people and navigating through musical styles."

This search for herself also goes through the clothes she chooses to wear, using fashion as a means of expression. His music could be heard from 2017, for the launch of Kenzo Folio. "I have to say that my look was a real mess when I was younger," he says humorously. "I worked as an assistant to stylist Miscsha Notcutt, who is now my creative director, and learned a lot from her."
"When I feel bad, I make an effort to dress well, for example, to wear a dress from GmbH that I love and that helps me feel better. Clothes have that power. Fashion is very important precisely for this reason, not so much for the trends it dictates, but to help us better understand who are and what we want to feel."
