<p>&ldquo;The most essential inheritance I carry from the island is the pleasure &ndash; almost the need &ndash; to host and to share. That instinct is at the very core of <a href="https://www.ses12naus.org/en/home-eng/">Ses Dotze Naus</a>. Ibiza, to me, means freedom, playfulness, humour, and I feel deeply identified with that energy. But of course, it contrasts with the rigour and professionalism that come with international experience. Travel has been fundamental in forming my outlook. It creates empathy. It teaches you to embrace other perspectives. Growing up in the Ibiza of the &rsquo;80s and &rsquo;90s, with its counterculture and sense of liberty, gave me the urge to give something back, to enrich the island culturally, to bring in new voices and expressions. That&rsquo;s what drives the foundation: honouring heritage while stirring it with contemporary energy. When we began hosting artist residencies in 2016, it was, honestly, an experiment. There were interesting cultural projects happening on the island, but there wasn&rsquo;t a strong habit of experiencing contemporary art. After those first few sessions, we saw the need to go further &ndash; to formalise and professionalise our structure, and so <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sesdotzenaus/">Ses Dotze Naus</a> became a foundation. It was about opening up a broader dialogue. We wanted to contribute to the cultural language of Ibiza, and in a way, we&rsquo;ve seen that language grow &ndash; not just in our own work, but as other projects emerge and find inspiration. We've had the privilege of facilitating artists' connection to the island &ndash; not just physically, but conceptually. Their work addresses a wide spectrum of subjects, and we believe that in nurturing those dialogues, we&rsquo;re also helping preserve Ibiza&rsquo;s culture in a meaningful, living way. As the foundation continues to evolve, we&rsquo;re now entering a new phase. We&rsquo;ve taken time to reflect and reframe the scale of the project, with the possibility of creating a new space for reflection on the island, strengthening links with other artistic structures, and building bridges with the wider Balearic territory. Our focus has always been on building bridges &ndash; between artists, the island, and the world. We support serious, engaged artists who are open to play and to experimenting, and who see Ibiza as more than a setting, as a collaborator. It&rsquo;s about mutual contribution. We&rsquo;re facilitators. And one of our biggest challenges is to remain relevant and bold, especially for our local audience. We work from Ibiza, for Ibiza. Working with artists is a privilege. It invites you to imagine different questions and invent new rules. There&rsquo;s often a romanticised idea that &ldquo;Ibiza was better before&rdquo;. And yes, nostalgia is beautiful &ndash; and sometimes even useful, as a kind of emotional fuel. But I believe if we just sit and complain, we get nowhere. Nostalgia paralyses the imagination. Ses Dotze Naus works to preserve memory, but always with projection. We&rsquo;re not interested in replicating the past &ndash; we&rsquo;re interested in imagining the future. What gives me hope is seeing people on the island doing deeply meaningful work &ndash; people with a real commitment to the land, to regeneration, to connection. There&rsquo;s a growing awareness, a questioning of methods, a desire to improve. &rdquo;</p>
