A canvas of contemporary art sets the tone at Soho Farmhouse Ibiza.

When guests step into the newly opened <a href="https://www.instagram.com/sohofarmhouseibiza/">Soho Farmhouse Ibiza</a>, they enter a living, breathing gallery. It pulses with the island&rsquo;s creative heartbeat, with every corner offering a glimpse into the artistic spirit of Ibiza. Though the global Soho House art collection spans more than 10,000 works across dozens of properties, this Balearic outpost represents something more personal &ndash; an intimate and authentic celebration of local talent that delves into the island&rsquo;s artistic pulse. For <a href="https://www.instagram.com/katebryan_art/?hl=en">Kate Bryan</a>, Soho House&rsquo;s Chief Art Director, sourcing pieces for <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/soho-house-ibiza-cas-gasi-soho-farmhouse-to-open-in-ibiza-in-spring-2025">Soho Farmhouse Ibiza</a> swiftly became a passion project. It was a curatorial journey anchored by respect for the island&rsquo;s history and heritage. Bryan&rsquo;s path into the art world reflects a lifelong passion. From her time at the British Museum to her immersion in Hong Kong&rsquo;s contemporary art scene, she has cultivated an impressive career culminating in her current global role. When she joined Soho House nearly a decade ago, the collection already counted over 2,000 works. What began as an informal, freelance-led initiative became a full-fledged department under her leadership. &ldquo;It became obvious to Nick [Jones, founder of Soho House] that the collection needed to go up a gear,&rdquo; she explains. Her remit now spans far beyond selecting artwork &ndash; from conservation to site planning, often donning a hard hat mid-renovation. &ldquo;Ibiza stood out to me because it&rsquo;s so much more than just a party island,&rdquo; says Bryan. &ldquo;The natural beauty and the local artists&rsquo; deep connection to their environment made it an inspiring place to work.&rdquo; She made a conscious decision not to approach the island as an outsider importing an aesthetic, but as a collaborator seeking meaningful connections. &ldquo;We started with informal chats, talking to local art foundations, galleries and the artists themselves,&rdquo; she recalls.

&ldquo;Our aim was clear &ndash; to showcase a diverse range of artists born, based or trained in the Balearic Islands.&rdquo; The result is a collection that feels rooted, grown from the soil, sun and sea of Ibiza. &ldquo;Everyone seemed to know everyone in the artistic scene,&rdquo; she says. &ldquo;When I arrived, it felt like stepping into a close circle of creatives who support one another.&rdquo; That ethos echoes throughout the collection, which spans sculptural installations, light projections, ceramic frescoes and painted works. Each piece is deeply connected to the rhythms and textures of the island, creating an immersive sensory experience that reveals layers of mythology, memory and meaning. Natalie Rich was commissioned to create a site-specific installation for the ceiling of the House&rsquo;s reading room &ndash; an evocative work that reimagines the fresco as a symbolic tapestry. &ldquo;In the past, ceilings were used much more artistically than they are today and often told the story of a place,&rdquo; she says. &ldquo;I created small wooden and ceramic pieces, each telling its own story through a shape, a colour or an abstract figure. Together, they form a kind of cabinet of curiosities.&rdquo; Her visual language draws on ancient alphabets &ndash; Berber, Etruscan, Cypriot &ndash; blending symbolic forms that transcend literal meaning. &ldquo;There are no words, no meaning; they&rsquo;re all together in the same place, without borders, just like on this island, where people from all over come together and many languages are spoken.&rdquo; Her palette of earthy terracotta, wood tones and soft whites mirrors Ibiza&rsquo;s raw elegance, punctuated with flashes of yellow, red and glossy black to animate the ceiling.

The result is contemplative yet playful &ndash; a meditation on coexistence and cultural layering. Javier Riera offers a quieter, more ethereal intervention. His outdoor installation projects geometric forms onto the cypresses flanking the main path to the House. &ldquo;For me, Ibiza is a mythical place, the land of my ancestors and a sonic reference point shaped by the likes of Pink Floyd,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;The light here is the very essence of the landscape.&rdquo; Riera&rsquo;s site-specific projections transform the trees into a slow-moving play of light and geometry. &ldquo;The projection moves slowly, inviting a meditative state. It&rsquo;s not about spectacle, but about opening up perception &ndash; making the invisible visible in a subtle and silent way.&rdquo; This is the first time Soho House has included an outdoor light installation in its collection. &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve never done that before,&rdquo; Bryan reveals. &ldquo;Ibiza felt like the right place for it.&rdquo; The work reflects the island&rsquo;s distinctive terrain and spiritual stillness. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s not about a flippant lifestyle,&rdquo; she notes. &ldquo;The artists here are deeply connected to the place.&rdquo; Both artists speak with reverence about Ibiza&rsquo;s natural influence. The island, they agree, is an active collaborator. &ldquo;The light here, both in the morning and at night, creates a magical atmosphere,&rdquo; says Rich. &ldquo;The landscape is intense, and the contrasts are beautiful. But more than that, I&rsquo;ve found in Ibiza a place of calm and focus that deeply supports my creative process.&rdquo; For Riera, nature becomes a mirror. &ldquo;Geometry, for me, is the bridge between our interior world and nature,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;A shared language, older than matter itself, that connects both beyond thought.&rdquo;&nbsp;

The collection at <a href="https://www.sohohouse.com/houses/soho-farmhouse-ibiza">Soho Farmhouse Ibiza</a> thrives on this kind of resonance. The works are not static. They appear embedded in ceiling beams, tucked into sunlit corners or projected across twilight walls &ndash; fleeting moments of presence and reflection. &ldquo;We have commissions made just for the House, alongside works acquired because they resonate with the space and the local vibe,&rdquo; says Bryan. Visitors are encouraged to explore with curiosity. Custom art maps with QR codes provide behind-the-scenes insights into the creative process, artist bios and conceptual notes. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s about experiencing the place through the artists&rsquo; eyes,&rdquo; she says. That idea &ndash; experiencing the island through artistic interpretation &ndash; feels especially timely. Ibiza, long cast in the public imagination as a hedonistic escape, is undergoing a cultural shift. A new wave of creatives, curators and collectors is helping redefine the island&rsquo;s identity. Local institutions and grassroots initiatives are cultivating the arts through exhibitions, workshops and residencies rooted in land, memory and expression. The arrival of Soho House adds weight to this evolution. By championing Balearic artists and embedding their work in its spaces, it joins a broader conversation already unfolding across the island. &ldquo;Ibiza has been making an enhanced effort in recent years to showcase art,&rdquo; says Rich. &ldquo;The arrival of Soho House confirms that this cultural redefinition is becoming increasingly visible.&rdquo; Riera adds, &ldquo;Ibiza has distinct spheres that coexist without fully merging. This permanent exhibition creates a space for retreat and creativity.&rdquo; For the artists, being part of the Soho House collection is both professionally and personally meaningful. &ldquo;For me, being commissioned by Soho to create a piece is a great honour,&rdquo; says Rich. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a chance to share my work in a space that values artistic expression and authenticity.&rdquo; Kate Bryan adds: &ldquo;Each House is unique and in Ibiza, like in many Soho Houses around the world, the art truly embodies the land&rsquo;s soul, its community and its natural beauty.
