L&rsquo;OFFICIEL IBIZA music columnist Ralph Moore discovers that you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.&nbsp;

Is there such a thing as too much Balearic? Four days into my first week on <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/ibiza-spa-hotels-wellness-at-ibiza-gran-hotel-s-open-spa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibiza</a> since experiencing Beat Hotel&rsquo;s brilliant week of events on the island this time last year and the answer is clearly a resounding &lsquo;no&rsquo;. I&rsquo;ve witnessed Carl Craig blend &lsquo;E2-E4&rsquo; by Manuel G&ouml;ttsching into the mix at Pikes for my birthday and seen Sven V&auml;th drop Talk Talk&rsquo;s &lsquo;Life&rsquo;s What You Make It&rsquo; outside at 528 for Cocoon&rsquo;s even more epic 25th birthday and it seems like I still can&rsquo;t get enough of that that (eighties) Balearic beat. It helps that we still have the September sun.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Not that <a href="https://beat-hotel.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Beat Hotel</a> are particularly helping on that front. Their party programming at Las Mimosas, the Mambo-owned Balearic enclave, is pitch-perfect for afternoons by the pool at this still relatively undiscovered four-star San An retreat, where the staff are as attentive as the food is excellent. Island mainstay Chris Coco is on excellent form when we bed in for the afternoon, with &lsquo;Koma&rsquo; by Togolese artist Afia Mala sounding especially sweet as Coco beams us right back to 1989. Later on, at Hostal La Torre, Heidi Lawden and her partner Lovefingers are offering an even more chilled evening soundtrack, which to these ears peaks with Bassomatic&rsquo;s club classic &lsquo;Fascinating Rhythm&rsquo;. Lawden also manages the mighty DJ Harvey day and night so if ever anyone would have insight into horizontal house music manouevres, it&rsquo;s her. The food, by the way, was sumptuous and was the work of chef Brad Carter, who flew in to work his magic on our taste buds as he did last year at <a href="https://www.standardhotels.com/ibiza/properties/ibiza?gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwjY64BhCaARIsAIfc7YYmModp2B6qUZB1Jo5hOxHoS8VzaIwb83-FXrc0JJ6zG7FQpD4CeIwaAvROEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Standard</a> and <a href="https://www.lasmimosasibiza.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mimosas</a>.

&ldquo;Sometimes I can&rsquo;t believe the things I get to play and places I get to go and call it my job, an actual job (although my mam would beg to differ),&rdquo; grins Heidi when we speak again post-Hotel, which for her means after a non-stop weekend of European shows. &ldquo;I saw Beat Hotel&rsquo;s foray onto the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/laneus-italian-knitwear-in-ibiza-a-moonlit-love-story-es-vedra" target="_blank" rel="noopener">island of Ibiza</a> last year and watched longingly and lovingly from afar so I was thrilled to be invited to be a part of it this year. I played twice, first at the stunningly beautiful and incredibly Balearic Hostal La Torre B2B with Lovefingers. If anything sums up what we play and listen to at home in our downtime, this would be it. Sound-tracking that sunset is serious business, but the music we both played was among some of the closest to my heart and soul and not merely chosen for the occasion.&rdquo;

The day after, Heidi is back behind the decks at Las Mimosas again. &ldquo;I checked in, spent the night, ate some of the guest chef&rsquo;s food, soaked it all up then played poolside on the Friday afternoon,&rdquo; she smiles. &ldquo;Everything from William Orbit, King Tubby, Tarjei Nyg&aring;rd and Linkwood to classics including Sven G, which was introduced to me by Jose Padilla at Cafe Del Mar on trips many moons ago and even a live version of &lsquo;Jibaro&rsquo; were played.&rdquo; And while I had to leave for London on Saturday, Friday night&rsquo;s generous dinner on the roof at The Standard was worth every single cent and DJ Willie Graff provided the perfect supper set before The Zenmenn (think Australian dance outfit Parcels but with more of an irreverent sense of humour) eased us towards the midnight hour. Over to Heidi to close us out: &ldquo;Beat Hotel, like the song goes, you can check out any time you like but you can never leave! Thankfully the memory of such a wonderful and sensitively programmed week, with fun in mind while honouring the spirit of the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/my-island-sunshine-bertrand-eyewear-designer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">island</a>, will linger a long time.&rdquo; Hear, hear.
