All change: the great Ibiza hotel shakeup of 2023.

Ibiza is the island of reinvention and this year’s going to be no slouch. We round up the hotel openings, the hotel overhauls and the ooh-la-la hotel updates that you need to know about (and book), now.

All eyes are on Salinas this spring as not one but two design-driven overhauls promise to shake up the sleepy salt flats scene. Artsy Pandilla (‘the gang’ in Spanish) is a cool-as-can-be renovation of a clutch of coastal casitas, creating a white-hot destination hotel with acres of hipster charm. Under the eye of a new French team, Pandilla promises DJs, a great boutique and a roster of poolside pop-ups from the likes of Chidas Cantina and Bar 1805 that will make this a must-do after a day on the sands. Just across the salt flats, longstanding Salinas icon Hostal Mar y Sal has undergone a similarly retro refit, restoring the much-loved seaside hotel to its 1990s heyday and adding a serious restaurant in the process. The spirit is resolutely barefoot, with suitably bohemian décor and a menu inspired by Ibiza’s age-old links with the Indian subcontinent. The shady al-fresco bar is the place to slam sunset margaritas with sand in your toes, while the likes of Jaime Fiorito spin an upbeat playlist of feel-good late afternoon tunes. Meanwhile, similarly retro Portinatx fave Los Enamorados has reopened with a bang, with a glorious new terrace menu of raw fish, salads and tacos and the same trippy tropical sunset vibes that we’ve come to love.

There’s news at the top end of the hotel scene, as Vara de Rey institution Gran Hotel Montesol enjoys (endures?) yet another revamp, this time at the hands of Paris’ Experimental Group. Expect cosmic colours, shaggy rugs and a playful, pastel-hued aesthetic that’s in marked contrast to the Montesol’s longstanding heritage charm. Competition at the top end will come in the form of Hyde and Mondrian, as the two American hospitality big-hitters open side-by-side hotels in overlooked Cala Llonga. In an extraordinarily ambitious project, the twin hotels will have 563 rooms between them, along with nine bars and restaurants, multiple pools and a programmed nightlife offering. Up in northerly Portinatx, Six Senses Xarraca Bay continues its wellness march with sold-out fitness retreats from the likes of Taryn Toomey, founder of cult LA workout The Class, and the long-awaited launch of the Rosebar, the in-house medi-spa that’s set to be a world leader in the art of biohacking.

Island icon Pikes has undergone a low-season revamp, with jazzy new bedrooms, an updated restaurant and even a new nightclub – the brilliantly named Bathtub Club. In the south, Ibiza’s prettiest hotel-with-a-view, Petunia, has merged with the Beaumier group for a facelift that includes a new rooftop restaurant and updated suites and bars. Pleasingly, the jaw-dropping views of Es Vedra remain the same. Across in town, Ibiza’s original boutique hotel, Marina Botafoch’s Ocean Drive, celebrates 25 years this summer with a brand-new look that captures its renowned Art Deco style and glamourous spirit. The DJ-favourite hotel has been completely renovated with a new rooftop bar, lobby, lounge and restaurant, as well as updates to the 40 rooms and suites, scene of many a post-Pacha afterparty. Across in Formentera, dreamy Migjorn bolthole Teranka has fallen into the stable of super-hotelier Jennica Shamoon Arazi, whose enviable portfolio of standout  getaways includes Ibiza’s glossy Nobu Ibiza Bay and perennial Andalusia favourite, The Marbella Club. Expect the same personal touches, laidback clientele and cosy, cossetting atmosphere that have made her other hotels such longstanding classics. All you need to do now is book.
