Gianfranco Ferré, the architect of style
Discover on L'OFFICIEL Gianfranco Ferré, known to most as the architect of style, one of the great stylists of Made in Italy.
Gianfranco Ferré was born in Legnano on August 15, 1944, and was one of the greatest - as well as appreciated - exponents of Made in Italy . Having graduated in 1969 in Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic , with a thesis in Methodology of the approach to composition , Gianfranco Ferré began to approach the world of fashion starting from accessories. Among the many, during his career Ferrè collaborated with Walter Albini and Christiane Bailly . Albini has always been considered one of the founding fathers of prêt-à-porter , starting to conceive fashion no longer as an exclusive and elitist process, but rather within everyone's reach, commercial, and which aims to inclusiveness. In fact, Gianfranco Ferré will also give a very important contribution to Italian prêt-à-porter , and his collections between geometry, romanticism and poetry will make generations dream, remaining current and iconic even today.
A dress is sensuality when it moves tied to the body. It is ostentation when it covers you and dazzles you. It is noise, rustling. A silent dress is a null, useless dress.

Gianfranco Ferrè has always respected elegance, and his vision of fashion has never been tainted by any form of ostentation . 1978 is the year in which he founded Gianfranco Ferrè Spa , which a few years later will see a profound expansion into women's fashion, men's fashion, accessories, fragrances, ready-to-wear and couture.
Ferrè loved young people very much, and in fact during his career he held many fashion lessons in the best universities around the world, becoming President of the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan in 2007.
Gianfranco Ferré imagined and created each of his garments as if it were a project, and the shirt will be one of the distinctive traits of his imagination . Whether made of taffeta, satin, crepe de chine, organza, or tulle, it is considered the garment par excellence of the maison Ferré. The Italian designer loved that everyone could interpret the shirt in their own way, attributing to it a unique essence and unrepeatable meanings. Today we have about 4000 archive pieces, in fact no one has continued the indelible path of the architect of style. The Made in Italy brand Gianfranco Ferré, despite no longer being in business since the death of its founder, will never disappear.
Between fashion, art and architecture, the Italian designer's stainless vision will never die.
