Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani was just 17 years old when he arrived <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/moda/paris-folies-la-haute-couture-conquista-parigi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in Paris</a> in 1950 to study fashion at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. He had clear ideas and a talent to channel into the right formula. <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/moda/mostra-alaia-balenciaga-scualptors-of-shape-cristobal-balenciaga-museum" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Balenciaga</a> , Jean Dessès, and <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/fashion-week/guy-laroche-aw17" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Guy Laroche</a> were the ateliers where he worked, honing his techniques and absorbing the complex dynamics of an elite, sophisticated world, frequented by distinctive personalities, to which Valentino Garavani was naturally predestined.

A year after opening his atelier <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/arte/damien-hirst-mostra-galleria-borghese-roma-opere-foto" target="_blank" rel="noopener">on Via Condotti in Rome</a> , Valentino Garavani met <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/pop-culture/audrey-hepburn-foto-inedite" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Giancarlo Giammetti</a> in 1959, then an architecture student. Carmine, perhaps, but not purple. And no, it&#39;s not even fiery red. Valentino Red is now a registered trademark with a very precise color formula: a blend that balances 100% magenta, 100% yellow, with just 10% black. So much for imitators! Legend has it that the couturier, during his Parisian years, was captivated by the solemn atmosphere of the Barcelona Opera, including the guests dressed in red. And while denim isn't exactly a fabric that easily fits into the Valentino lexicon, it has nevertheless become a hybrid space for experimentation. In 2008, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, previously heads of accessories at Valentino, who were personally appointed to that role in 1999, became creative directors of the Roman fashion house. They were responsible for the brand's rebirth, thanks to a careful reinterpretation of its DNA combined with a more contemporary vision of luxury and elegance. Their prolific co-direction ended in 2016 when their twenty-five-year partnership, first as students at IED in Rome, then <a href="https://www.lofficielitalia.com/moda/fendi-storia-del-brand-karl-lagerfeld-silvia-venturini-carriera" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at Fendi</a> , and finally at Valentino, opened up new opportunities for professional growth.
