Considered the inventor of the miniskirt, passed away at the age of 93 at her home in Surrey. The miniskirt was the symbol of female emancipation in the 60s during Swinging London as well as one of the most iconic creations in the history of fashion.

Mary Quant, British designer known for having invented, but many say only introduced, the famous <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/search?query=mary+quant" target="_blank" rel="noopener">miniskirt</a> has died at the age of 93 .
A statement from the Quant family to the AP news agency said: "She died peacefully at home in Surrey, UK, this morning." Her family said that: "She was one of the most internationally recognized <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/culture/fashion-designers-and-their-mothers-the-eternal-muses" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fashion designers</a> of the 20th century and an outstanding innovator of the Swinging Sixties." While she is often erroneously credited as the inventor of the miniskirt, she undoubtedly made the miniskirt the "it" piece of clothing for a new generation of young women. With her Vidal Sassoon haircut she became the face of Swinging London, was often photographed and almost always wore a miniskirt, even on the occasion of her OBE in 1966.
Quant was born in 1930 in Blackheath, a suburb of London, England, after studying art at university she began a career in fashion in the 1950s, opening a multi-brand fashion boutique, before becoming a designer herself. Other designers of the time also made miniskirts for their collections, and there is no certainty that it was really Quant who created it first, although many attribute this invention to her.
