With the autumn / winter 2022-23 collection, the Japanese brand directed by Satoshi Kondo, demonstrates the attention to craft techniques by presenting the PODS and SLICE series inspired by the beauty of nature.

Sow and let it grow, is not only the title of the collection but also a mantra for <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/issey-miyake-iconic-career-moments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Issey Miyake</a> who for the fall / winter 2022-23 collection is inspired by the beauty of the irregular shapes of plants and wild nature. Within the collection, the PODS and SLICE series, reminiscent of fruits and vegetables, include the shiborizome (tie-dyeing) techniques of artisan dyeing and hikizome (hand-drawn dyeing), to the works of the master craftsmen of Kyoto.

PODS
It is a selection of garments that integrate <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/design/issey-miyake-collaboration-artist-tatsuo-miyajima" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Issey Miyake</a>'s traditional technique and technology of pleating with Shiborizome tie-dye dyeing. The technique combines the Japanese practice of shibari with the fabric, consists in tying the fabric with different types of cords (to reduce the fading of dyes) and immersing it in a dye bath. The shape is designed by three connected round pieces, inspired by a pea pod. The fabric between the rounds is first pleated, then stretched and tied by hand one at a time by the artisans in Kyoto, before being dyed.

ISSEY MIYAKE: SHIBORIZOME (PODS) short ver.

SLICE Exactly as the title of the series suggests, the garments recall the cross-sections of fruit and vegetables thanks to the use of the Hikizome technique, a special hand-drawn dye. In this case the prints of the cotton-cupro fabrics are drawn on material moistened with a brush, letting the color continue to move and penetrate freely. The same motif takes on unique and different shapes up to the total absorption of the pigment, the final finish is given with shades of airbrush.
