Creative Director Nicolas Di Felice&#39;s Courrèges Spring/Summer 2026 collection, titled &quot;Blinded by the Sun,&quot; is both an examination of fashion in harsh heatwave conditions and a metaphor for the melting and fading of reality. Di Felice deftly combined the house&#39;s futuristic spirit with current concerns about climate change, replacing the optimism of the 1960s with a sense of urgency.

The Courr&egrave;ges runway, surrounded by a ring of fiery light, transformed into a thermometer, with a voice reading out the rising summer temperatures. The opening design was a striking one: five visors, not religious but functional UV blockers, attached to a baseball cap and draped down, then tucked into the waistband of a mini A-line skirt of the same material. It was a visual representation of how the modern Courr&egrave;ges wardrobe had to adapt to hot and glaring conditions. Di Felice experimented with tailoring to create garments that were both skin-baring and wind-catching: leather motorcycle jackets with zips up the sleeves to take advantage of the breeze, geometric fusions that turned shorts into long skirts at the back, and daring cutouts on bodysuits.

Di Felice used the theme of heat waves as a metaphor to push the designs to more extreme ideas of &ldquo;melting&rdquo;. He explained that when the sun is too bright, sometimes the vision becomes blurred and the clothes reflect this idea. Many of the designs were made up of narrow, shimmering straps, evoking a feeling of dampness or the multiplication of matter until it seemed to melt. As the temperature on the runway climbed from 22 degrees to 30 degrees (reflected in a colour palette ranging from icy blues to warm hues), the designs gradually became transparent and disappeared.
The final details were decidedly futuristic, but lacking the traditional optimism: car windshield-shaped solar panels sprouting from dresses and tops, and ripped garments made of plant-based vinyl, reflecting the fragility of our current climate. The collection ended with a combination of environmental urgency and fashion radiance, confirming Courr&egrave;ges as a master craftsman who builds intensity and complexity season after season.
