THE HISTORY OF THE BELT When did the first belt originate? Already in the Babylonian civilizations ropes were used to tighten clothing at the waist, for the Romans the social class, for the Egyptians they were both an aesthetic quirk and a functional accessory, for the Middle Ages belts were mainly used by monks to wear the habit.
