Thirty years is something to celebrate. For the occasion, Gabriella Cortese, founder and Creative Director of Antik Batik, dived into her wardrobe and reissued the house&#39;s cult pieces, imagining an exclusive, limited-edition collection.

Afghan waistcoat, sequined dress, embroidered tunics and jackets, boutis outfits, flowers, transparencies... All the Antik Batik codes, to be mixed and layered, come together to celebrate three decades of hippie chic fashion through a collection of 10 very festive pieces. &quot;In fact, it&#39;s like a start-up that would be 30 years old,&quot; sums up Gabriela Cortese. “Even after all these years, I continue to work with the same artisans from India, Bulgaria or Peru, and their hand embroidery techniques. This taste for craftsmanship and this passion for a change of scenery make Antik Batik a brand recognizable among a thousand. The designer likes to update inspirations from elsewhere, like bringing back a piece of travel and adapting it to Parisian life. She trusts her intuition, and constantly renews herself. &quot; Travel has always been the center of my interest&quot; continues Gabriella Cortese. But not just any trip. &quot;The literary journey, the encounters that go with it, without even speaking the same language, but understanding each other because it comes from the heart.&quot;

Fashion came very early in the life of the designer, born in Turin in the 1960s, thanks in particular to her Hungarian grandmother, for whom couture was very important. &quot;That&#39;s how we occupied the girls at the time,&quot; says Gabriella. &quot;I was one of those kids who had to be kept busy, with knitting, painting or cross-stitching, so all these techniques were put in my hands naturally.&quot; Then she begins to observe, still with her little girl&#39;s eyes, the way her mother dressed in the middle of the seventies, all dressed in Saint Laurent, a decade that will continue her today. Once old enough to escape to Paris, she became a dancer at the Crazy-Horse, then headed east and discovered Nepal, Afghanistan, Tibet, finally settling down in India. At the dawn of the 90s, the autodidact arrived in Bali, and seized the sarongs of Balinese women to reinvent them in evening dresses: this is the beginning of the story of Antik Batik, in 1992. In addition to installing its bohemian fashion over the decades, Antik Batik is committed to great causes such as Sidaction, the children of Rwanda, the homeless or Ukraine, signs collaborations with houses outside its universes like Monoprix or Holidermie, and invites talents to create locker rooms like Elisa Sednaoui or Laura Smet. Sustainable since the very first day, it has been able to resist the revolutions that have shaken the fashion sector such as the increase in the price of raw materials, or the appearance of the big fast-fashion brands.
