The garment that started as a simple jean pants over time became a style statement. This May 20, the emblematic Levi's 501 model celebrated 150 years as an eternal trend.

We have all used the iconic item of clothing, the jean pants. It is versatile, comfortable and never goes out of style, year after year people choose to choose it in all its forms and trends. However, it&nbsp;was not always part of the fashion world. In the mid-20th century, the German businessman <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/omg-newjeans-has-finally-been-appointed-as-levi-s-global-ambassadors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Levi Strauss</a> encouraged cloth pants to be used for blue-collar work and as a work uniform. They were known as waist overalls , they had only one back pocket for the watch and their curved seam designs represented that it was a garment solely for work .

It was in 1851 when history took a turn, Strauss went to the United States in search of new horizons: he lived for two years in the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/art/frieze-new-york-2023-events-art-shows-galleries" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Big Apple</a> and in 1953 he arrived in San Francisco to create a small clothing sales company. In 1973 the German met the Reno tailor Jacob Davis and made him notice how the pockets of the garments fell apart with the hard work of the workers . With that problem on their hands, they both included copper rivets on the pants and patented the process, getting the trademark registered in the midst of the California Gold Rush. There the first jeans that the workers would use were born, the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/denim-blue-jeans-trend-remix-spring-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denim</a> fabric was chosen as the most appropriate for work in mines, farms, cattle and factories .

What started as a simple idea, over time became one of the largest companies in the world, a leader in denim clothing . The 501 took shape, and as the years went by, more implements were added: belt loops, back pocket, a new line of the seam curve, classic zipper, among other things. In the 1960s, it went from being a work item to a dress item, iconic in the world of fashion. And in the 80s it was a hit: the Levi's 501 became a global icon of culture and style and is currently considered "the fashion piece of the 20th century" for its influence, perfect fit and for being a must in all closets.
