Textured hair specialist and founder of the hair brand Bouclème, Michele Scott-Lynch revealed her best tips for taking care of her hair with awareness.

THE OFFICIAL: Why is curly hair different from straight hair?

This is partly related to the way hair strands twist and bend, which prevents sebum, the scalp's natural moisturizer, from moving through the length of the hair. This one needs more humidity to prevent frizz and give it more definition. Curly hair shrinks significantly when going from wet to dry. That's why it's really important to cut curly hair dry, because that's when it naturally sets.

LO: What is the most common mistake to avoid, in order to best care for curly hair?
MSL: The most common mistake I hear is towel-drying your hair after shampoo and <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/beauty/the-best-natural-beauty-routine-to-save-your-damaged-hair" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conditioner</a>, and then applying styling products. This can strip away needed moisture and lead to frizzy hair without definition. Water is essential in the routine, it hydrates the hair and helps to form beautiful, well-defined curls. We recommend always applying styling products to wet hair. This helps lock in moisture in curls, banish frizz and provide longer lasting definition.

LO: What is the best routine to take care of curly hair? MSL: It really depends on your type of curls and their texture. Fine, wavy hair needs lightweight products to avoid weighing it down, and paired with styling products that provide long-lasting hold.
