What was your first memory or encounter with the world of beauty and makeup?
So when I started boarding school at the age of 13, instead of sweets, a beauty editor gave me a box of makeup. That was when I realised I wanted to be a makeup artist. So, I did, and I have always had the vision that one day I will eventually start my own makeup brand.
But before that, I really want to hone my skills as a makeup artist, and I want to climb up to the top of the tree. I have a very rare career, compared to most makeup artists, because I was very lucky and privileged to be able to work around many talented designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Tom Ford, and Alexander McQueen. I've learnt so much from them, from fashion shows to red carpets and editorial covers.
How was your journey as a makeup artist like, and how did it lead you to launch your own brand?
As I said before, my career path was very rare. Normally, when you work as a makeup artist, you are either a red carpet, fashion show or editorial makeup artist. So,iIf you do couture and ready-to-wear runway shows, you don't really touch red carpet jobs and even rarely get magazine editorial jobs, vice versa.
To be able to do all three is very rare, and I think I'm the only one who's had a very big career in all three categories. From there, I worked as a creative director for various luxury brands around the world and had a vision of the white space in the market that wasn't there for the consumer.
People would say to me that they want to be able to do that particular look that I've created, and I was frustrated because I can't give it to them, as I'm always mixing my own formulas using various products. That was when I realised that I had to create a brand,&nbsp;

You&rsquo;ve worked with countless celebrities, designers and makeup artists. Who are your favourite ones to work with?
I love Tom Ford. He's so great. We really understood each other and it was such easy collaboration with him. I got his world, I got his woman. I would always do mood boards about who the woman was and what she was doing in order to create looks for his shows and campaigns.
 I also loved working with Alexander McQueen. He was so wild. He would take me on these different kinds of journeys, from Cleopatra to Greek Gods and Elizabeth Taylor.
Celebrity wise, Kate Moss is one of my best friends. I've worked with her for years, along with Salma Hayek, Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz and more. Makeup is a very intimate job, and I've known some of them for over 30 years. We've gone on trips together and had done so much work together. I was right there with them for it all. I mean, you probably wouldn't be that intimate with someone unless you are in a relationship with them.&nbsp;
Charlotte Tilbury has seen massive global success. What drew you to expand into Malaysia, and how do you see the brand evolving in the region?
What I love about Malaysia is the fact that it's this melting pot of culture, where you have all different races blend into a beautiful community, and I want to be able to reach out to these beautiful people.&nbsp; My brand is a brand that is made for anyone from 18 to 80, or even sometimes younger.<affirmative> It's for every skin tone, every ethnicity and every age.</affirmative>
I love the different archetypes, the different worlds speaking to these different characters. So for me, it feels really exciting, and it's a really important milestone for us. Launching in new countries, like giving birth to me. So now Malaysia is another one of my babies.&nbsp;

Malaysia has a hot and humid climate. How do Charlotte Tilbury products cater to this kind of weather, especially for long-lasting wear?
So far, we've also launched in other warmer regions like the Middle East, and we have become the number one beauty brand there, where our products like the Airbrush Flawless makeup collection and Pillow Talk collection are very popular.
And I think they are perfect for Malaysia too. Whether you use our foundation or cushion, just finish it up with the Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray. Doesn't matter if you're sweating or even swimming, just airbrush it! Yes, we have tried putting on our makeup and jumping into the swimming pool. It had gone viral on social media because nothing moved and everything stayed perfect and flawless.

What is the best beauty advice you&rsquo;ve ever received, and how has it shaped your approach to makeup artistry?
My mother, I mean, my mother would always say to me, "Red lipstick, wake up and wear it. It's instant glamour. She's a big inspiration to me.
If you could recommend just three Charlotte Tilbury products for someone who is trying your brand for the first time, what would they be?
A really fabulous face cream is a must-have, so the Magic Cream is the first, which immediately revives the skin. Then, I think there's no one in Malaysia who should not have the Airbrush Flawless Finish Set Duo, which has the setting spray and powder, because of the hot and humid climate.
Of course, we need a foundation, and the Flawless Airbrush Foundation is perfect with its blurring effect to create a perfect base, but there is also our Pillow Talk Cushion, which is a global phenomenon right now, especially in Asia.
I know it's more than three, but you need our lipstick too. One of my favourites is the K.I.S.S.I.N.G nude lipstick in Penelope Pink, which I created specially for Penelope Cruz!

With Charlotte Tillbury expanding globally, can you share with us what&rsquo;s next for the brand?
I'm not allowed to share my new innovations with you as much as I want to, but I've got some incredible new collections that have just arrived, like the Pillow Talk lipsticks that I want everyone to try in Malaysia.
These lipsticks elevate the natural pigments of the lip and give you a dreamy finish that makes you look like you've just been kissed!
