While trends move at lightning speed and the TikTok generation makes products go viral in a flash, Peter Philips 's approach to beauty is rooted in the concept of timelessness, as evident in his work for the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/dior-pv-new" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dior</a> runways. For eight years at the helm of the maison's makeup, Philips has maintained a classic aesthetic, while being profoundly innovative in product formulations, where performance guides its creations, as in the recent Rouge Dior <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/beauty/with-its-new-lipstick-forever-dior-imagine-le-lipstick-clean-ultime">Forever Lipstick</a> . Similarly, Dior men's jewelry designer Yoon Ahn &ndash; who is also at the helm of her own brand, Ambush &ndash; strikes a balance between longevity and innovation in her work, taking Dior's codes and remixing them like modern family heirlooms. . Storytelling is an important component for both creatives who work on the same fashion shows, the latest in chronological order, the Dior Men S/S 2023. &nbsp; The duo got together virtually to talk to L'Officiel Italia about beauty and global influences. &nbsp;
L'OFFICIEL ITALIA: Fashion and beauty both increase self-confidence. How is this reflected in your work? PETER PHILIPS : I think it's a very specific relationship, the link between fashion and beauty. When I create products, I also have to think about the woman who just wants to be beautiful, who doesn't know the latest fashion trends. Everyone wants to be gorgeous. From full makeup to the light touch of freshly tinted moisturizer, no matter what, everyone wants to feel and look amazing. This is a totally different state of mind. People who shop for fashion expect ever-changing seasonal trends. Those who focus more on beauty want to have a product that is faithful over time. When creating products I always make sure that my main focus is on beauty, so that women and men of all ages can find something in my collections that won't intimidate them, with a formula that will actually help them. &nbsp; Sometimes I give it a little twist, maybe with a color or something extreme, just to show that you can go further and express yourself.
YOON AHN: For me, makeup is like a toy; whenever there's a new eyeshadow palette that strikes me, I have to try it to see what's so funny about it. That's why I like trends, trying new tricks, changing my look, but there's also a side of me that looks for a product that works and to stick with.

LOI: Speaking of eye-catching products - Peter tell us about the new <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/beauty/with-its-new-lipstick-forever-dior-imagine-le-lipstick-clean-ultime" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rouge Dior </a>Forever Lipstick.
PP: It's a perfect matte, long-lasting and no-transfer. You can drink your coffee without a trace. There is a wonderful range of shades and all the colors have a very natural feel. Even the reds, bricks, darks all have an earthy edge. Perfect matte is an integral part of the French it-girl fantasy. It's part of what we do, somehow we're selling dreams. We offer products, designs, formulas, textures and visuals that help you recreate something. &nbsp;
YA: I think the fantasy of the clean girl represents the aesthetics of the new generation of the French it-girl. There's the no-makeup makeup, the minimal colors, and everything in between. But it is its modern version.
PP: It seems to be all effortless. It's kind of like she woke up, put her hair up just to put on a little makeup and that's it. She's always stylish, but looks effortless. And there may be red lipstick and maybe it's a 70's vibe. Like Catherine Deneuve in the 70's - sort of a bob with windblown hair and a loose silk blouse. She's not like a New Yorker who always has everything under control. Or an LA girl who puts a lot of effort into being effortless. With French girls it's a matter of nonchalance. It's a concept we work on all the time and that evolves with fashion and time. But effortless is certainly a good definition.
LOI: Is that something you see in Tokyo, Yoon?
YA: Oh no, there's no effortlessness here. In Tokyo it is very calculated how things are put together. Tokyo's aesthetic is a little different than people think. There are many fantasies about what Tokyo's aesthetic could be, stuck in the 90s and 2000s, many people still think of that kind of flashiness. But if you come to Tokyo now, the last five years have been just&hellip; beige. Literally, no color; everyone wears shapeless silhouettes, but it's also all controlled. So it's interesting what's happening with trends in Japan. &nbsp;

LOI: How do you deal with the pressure of constantly having to innovate? Where do you go for inspiration? PP: When I do the shows, I have to consider the designer&#39;s vision and that is my inspiration. Where can I go further? Where do I have to hold back? What can I do to complete his vision, in combination with all the team behind the scenes? I also have to make sure the makeup is balanced. The collection is sold worldwide, it must fascinate women, men, anyone who passes by the counter in South America, Asia, Australia, Europe, everywhere. And everyone has different expectations about a makeup product. They all have different standards of beauty, rituals and climates. Actually, I don&#39;t mind working within these limitations, because you explore more. If you can do anything you want, you get lost easily. On the other hand, if you work within a framework of limitations, you really have to push on the few elements you have, and then something great emerges. YA: I think design is like problem solving. It&#39;s a little different than beauty, although the approach to creativity may have similarities. For Dior it&#39;s more about longevity, right? Will it be a design that lasts over time? Does it make sense in the whole scheme of brand storytelling? It is about introducing elements that were part of the maison and re-telling or re-showing them. I don&#39;t necessarily see it as pressure. I have very clear what the goal is when I draw different things. &nbsp; LOI: Peter, you mentioned the global aspect of the beauty industry. What global influences do you see today? PP: On the formula front, Korea has always been ahead - BB cream, cushion foundation, and so on. In luxury, Paris has always been ahead. But there&#39;s so much happening in beauty and there&#39;s so much openness because of social media. Even just ten years ago you didn&#39;t have access to all that information. Now you simply order online and you can have anything you want. It&#39;s a great opportunity to play, to discover things and to express yourself. So where does inspiration come from and who is the leader? It&#39;s all a melting pot, which actually represents what the world is today. A nice melting pot of all kinds of influences, inspirations and expressions.
