For the fifth edition of the Artycapucines project, Louis Vuitton calls on 5 other artists from the contemporary art scene to interpret the Capucines bag. Billie Zangewa, Ewa Juszkiewicz, Liza Tou, Tursic &amp; Mille, and Ziping Wang.

Since 2019, 29 state-of-the-art editions of the famous <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/louis-vuitton-s-the-essence-of-travel-for-spring-summer-2024-collection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Louis Vuitton</a> Capucines bag have been created, and for the fifth time of the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/louis-vuitton-artycapucines-designers-customize-handbags" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Artycapucines</a> project the maison returns to collaborate with 5 new world-famous artists. Named in honor of the first shop, opened in Rue Neuve-des-Capucines in Paris in 1854, the bag has become a perfect support for artists who, together with master craftsmen, have shaped their vision of the accessory as if it were a perfect immaculate canvas. And after the success of previous collaborations with artists of the caliber of Daniel Buren, Alex Israel, Paola Pivi and Urs Fischer, the new 5 artists who have reimagined the Louis Vuitton bag are: Billie Zangewa, Ewa Juszkiewicz, Liza Tou, Tursic &amp; Mille, and Ziping Wang. Each bag example from the Artycapucines 2023 collection is kept in specially designed packaging, the models will be available in a limited edition of 200 pieces.

Billie Zangewa

Her works often incorporate African fabrics, fabric scraps, beads and other textile materials to create richly detailed collages. Her compositions narrate experiences and stories of everyday life, issues of gender, identity and cultural belonging, and often explore the theme of femininity and women&#39;s empowerment. She is the South African Billie Zangewa, originally from Malawi, who chooses to use imprecise fragments of raw silk to create landscapes and portraits. The Swimming Lesson (2020), is the work chosen for Louis Vuitton&#39;s Capucines together with his son Mika, recreated through the combination of high definition trompe-l&#39;oeil print, lively embroidery and deliberately visible hand stitching.

Ewa Juszkiewicz

Ewa Juszkiewicz is known for her work in painting and sculpture, her masterpieces are characterised by portraits of women in plastic poses, often reinterpreting historical works of art or creating new images that challenge traditional aesthetic conventions. For the Louis Vuitton project he chose to transpose his typically sensational and surrealist work, Ginger Locks (2021) using a high definition print, emphasised by a string of golden pearls.

Liza Lou

Conceptual art intersects textile art in the creative practice of American artist Liza Lou. For her Artycapucines, she is inspired by the large-scale beadwork entitled Kitchen (1995) and creates a wonderful texture composed of refined beadwork. The process is first embossed on the soft leather and then printed in soft pastel tones, to then be wrapped around the Capucines bag for a second skin effect.

Tursic &amp; Mille

Ida Tursic &amp; Willfried Mille known as the French Serbian duo Tursic &amp; Mille are internationally recognised for their pictorial works. Together they explore the abundance of images present in contemporary society and introduce it into the context of the Capucines bag. They reinvented the bag in a distinctive flower shape, using it as a frame for a richly embroidered and colourful version of the painting "Tenderness" (2021). This work is accompanied by a burnt cedar wood handle and an inlaid LV logo.

Ziping Wang

And finally there is the smaller version, proposed by Ziping Wang. You are a Chinese figurative artist who works on works in which the overlapping, interlocking of subjects and elements represent our saturated and self-reflective world. A Capucines made with fragments of leather and inlays with bright, bright colours, details reminiscent of sugar sticks and pop motifs.
